We were recommended this place and the coconut rice here by an artist in pier 39. So my friend and I decided to check out the place since we were going to be around the ocean beach that day. The food was not a let down. We got cloud9 drink which was the highlight of the meal. The noodles were good but the coconut rice was a let down, I was expecting they would cook in coconut milk or with coconut flakes but I think they add coconut oil to the rice which is not my taste.
Did you say mango salad ? Here it’s the best one you can get in the Bay Area. All the food is good. And the quality of this place has been the beast since I went the first time 10 years ago. Now they have table out side so they also can be god friendly. Amazing place !! Sorry I don’t have pictures of the basil beef. It’s amazing anyway
Great food, quick service. Indoor and outdoor dining. Takes reservations. Takeout available. I really appreciate that they had black sticky rice and the tea leaf salad did not have lettuce. Not a ton of vegetarian options, but enough.
Authentic experience, good service or I might say the servers were over-enthusiastic to keep your table clean. Taste was amazing and their beverages also made it a good experience. Although the beverages are very expensive if not the food.
I am going to think about balada every day now. The texture and taste were to DIE for, and the curry dipping sauce was great as well.We also got the special noodles, mango chicken, and basil prawns. They were all packed with flavors. This was my first time trying Burmese cuisine and now I’ll be stuck thinking about it thousands of miles away ?
This place has been on my radar for a very long time, made even longer due to COVID. Dine-in is now open, outdoor only, and I had the opportunity to stop by for lunch; it was absolutely delicious! The savory and not-at-all spicy Rangoon fish paired with coconut rice and flower tea all came together for a perfect meal. I'm looking forward to coming back to try my other Burmese favorite dishes, with the tea leaf salad and mohinga fish soup at the top of that list!
Three of us had dinner on Sunday night. The outside sidewalk dining area was great and kept us warm. We had an appetizer Balada with a dipping sauce. Tea leaf salad Soup was Burmese hot and sour and then volcano beef and mango chicken. All the dishes were exceptional. The service excellent. The food was fresh and hot. All three of us commented on how good a meal experience this night was
The food was great, but it was so cold. We waited an extra 30 minutes to sit inside since it was cold outside. However, there didn’t seem to any heat on. Almost all the customers were wearing coats inside! It made it hard to enjoy the food as we wanted to rush to leave (and harder to deal with the wait for our food). Consider the temperature if you want to dine-in.
I just have to say I have loved this place for the longest time! I love the food first and foremost, the authentic atmosphere, and the great service. Everyone who works here is very kind. If you are looking for what to order, definitely get the tea leaves salad and a noodle dish (either the Mandalay special noodles or the Nan Gyi Dok). I also love the attention and care they put into plating and presentation.Bonus points: I came here with a Burmese friend once and he said Mandalay is wayyy more authentic than Burma Superstar!
Had the Volcano Beef (secret menu item, ask for it) and had it made very spicy. it was delicious and the staff was so wonderful and nice. happy new years to all of you and thank you so much for such a wonderful meal
