The food here was amazing. As was the view. Great selection of both raw and cooked oysters as well as a great cocktail menu. The clam chowder is one of the best I’ve ever had. They don’t do reservations so recommend you show before dinner time. I arrived around 4pm and waited 10 minutes. When I was leaving the line to get in had grown to about 60 people.

Best clam chowder bowl of soup I've ever had. Worth every 40g of carbs (out of my 50g daily max intake). Sooo good. Totally recommended. Service was excellent as well, even on a cold SF evening.

one of best spots for fresh oysters and clams. the clam chowder was unforgettable! it came as overflowing bowl of clams with a little cream soup! we also had the baked oysters that were so plump and fresh! sitting outside would be ideal while weather permits. the view is just stunning.

After visiting Hog Island Oyster on a busy Saturday lunch, I understand why it is a popular seafood restaurant with people willing to wait in line. The food was excellent and the oysters are simply the best in town. We tried the oyster shot, grilled oyster and of course the traditional oyster on ice. They were all good. The geoduck ceviche was the perhaps most disappointing, but I like the clam chowder. I can't wait to come back again next time I am in SF.

Never fail me after so many years .. came here for the 3rd time and the quality of the seafood especially the oyster is really good. Ordered 24 sampling oyster of the day at $80.. I get to try the oyster from Canada , pacific and local breed. Love all of it especially the sweet and briny types. The clam chowder cook with whole clam and potatoes unlike others that’s starchy and creamy. The mussel tasted tropical and is uniquely prepared with coconut milk and Asian spices. The steam clean with basil and mince meat is so so good! Very flavourful and savoury! Pairing with their house white wine made perfect! Located along the bay and overlooking to bay bridge.. do come early before the meal hours to avoid long wait.

I highly recommend a stop here if you're visiting the ferry building! The food was excellent, and the service was friendly but efficient. We joined the line 15 min before opening on a Saturday and was able to get a table fairly quickly. The oyster shooter was savoury and paired perfectly with the oyster. We tried all 6 oysters on offer and all were incredibly fresh and flavourful. The oysters were not served with any toppings other than an herbed vinegar and lemon wedges, but with oysters this fresh you don't really need condiments. (Our server did bring Tabasco when requested.)The fried dishes (geoduck belly fritters and anchovies) were fried perfectly. The batter is light and crunchy. The bagna cauda grilled oysters were good if a tad buttery.I highly recommend the clam chowder; it's one of the best I've had. It's flavourful and creamy, my only complaint would be that I wish it was served a bit hotter. On the other hand, the steamed clams were good, but nothing too special.

Very flavorful seafood dishes! Not a very large menu, but they do their dishes well. Would also recommend trying their oyster selection. There was a line for early weekend dinner, but it went by fast (~15min), but if you want to sit outside it may take a bit longer

If you get a chance to sit at the bar, and Blythe happens to be bartending, you’re in for a treat! The food was fantastic and Blythe was so welcoming and informational…it’s worth the wait to get in!

Only own for a few days in SF and looking to experiencing a few neighborhoods and enjoying some SF treats...starting with lunch on a warm, sunny day atHog Island Oyster Co.'s Ferry Bldg. So warm I had to ask for an outside table in the shade. That probably wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't gotten there early. Service was quick and friendly. I asked about thegrilled oysters and if they would explain proper way to eat them. They came 4 to an order but the server I could order fewer. I ordered one Chipotle and one Worstershire grilled oyster...followed by the rustic fish stew. There not much eating in a single Oyster. I liked them, but not crazy about them. The fish stew, though, is another matter. I could make that a habit. Rich sauce loaded with shrimp, clams, mussels, squid, fish. Sea food can get expensive, especially in San Francisco. But I think I got my money's worth here.
