We have been dining at the Hayes St grill since it opened in the 80's. We bring visitors, take SF folks we are visiting because we expect the very best sauces, fish, and creme brulee. We were taken back a bit with quality of cuisine: the bread (extra cost) was so crusty we could not break pieces of it open, the salad was forgotten till after the entrees (though they comped us for that), the entrees were of a diminished size (for instance the swordfish -usually 3/4 inch thick was only a quarter inch thick), the beurre blanc texture was as usual but that special flavor we expected, wasn't there. Despite these fixable issues, we will be back when in town, especially since the creme brulee remains (in our opinion)the best in the world!!

We arrived to find out the number count for the reservation was wrong. However, the restaurant made adjustments to accommodate us. The service was excellent and so was the food.

As always great seafood, perfectly prepared and great service.

A San Francisco classic. Can't wait to go back again.

AS always HSG provides a very enjoyable dining experience. The food, the service and freshness of the seafood is exemplary. One note however, is that the closeness of the tables resulted in being "bumped" three times by the service staff as they passed through the aisle. This should be improved.

Excellent meal. Loved the calamari and butter beans as well as the grilled salmon with lime cilantro salsa. The Meyer lemon chiffon mousse was so light and air.

Meals at the Hayes Street Grill are always delicious, and the staff knows how to get people in and out courteously and attentively before performances at the nearby concert venues. It is among the half dozen best seafood restaurants in San Francisco, and a better value for money than most of the others.

It is unfortunate that the food just doesn't impress. Each dish seems to just miss being a well prepared version whether it was the clam chowder (everything over minced & broth a little too bland) or the salad (nice greens but the goat cheese was just a lump). Still searching for the right dish to order.

Incredibly fresh fish perfectly cooked and served is the hallmark of this wonderful spot. Everything was exceptional including the fries that are so crisp, hot, and delicious. Excellent choice of sauces as well!

Great! Always get good fish, not overdone. Fresh produce and a nice bar selection.
