The food just isn’t that good for me as a non vegan. Chips were from a bag. Service was slow. Tables were wobbly. I don’t get the hype on this place.

I'm going to try to be constructive in my criticism, and always taking into account that our servers were exceptionally friendly. To start with it took a while to get a table, that's usually a good sign.So we ordered guacamole with chips, and at the table there are two salsas a red one and a green. The chips and the guacamole were very expensive in my opinion considering the amount of guacamole was very small. ($12) The chips were also not that good, and the red salsa tasted a little fizzy.I got the ginger soda and the smallest little glass arrived mostly ice, with the homemade ginger soda. It took only a few sips and that glass was downed pretty quick, along with $6.In the pictures you will see the regular burrito and the tamales with mole. Both plates were pretty much the worst tasting Mexican food we have ever experienced. Both myself and my daughter came to the conclusion that if you go to any one of the taquerias nearby you will pay one third the amount but you will have authentic food. I understand that this is an alternative vegetarian restaurant but there are so many ways to make those products or ingredients taste better. All of the plates are above $18 and honestly I can't understand why anyone would pay that. Drinks were above 16 bucks. A better alternative would be to go to an actual Mexican restaurant and just choose the vegetarian version, ask for the pinto beans instead of the refried beans, make sure you get corn tortillas so you avoid any animal fat.... And when your bill comes you will have enough to spend at least two more meals.

If you want the worst possible meal in San Francisco, then this is the place for you.Wow, I consider myself a foodie, but I think Mexican food is hard to mess up. Somehow they made it happen, amazing. Some of the worst chips I've ever had, greasy and rancid. The green salsa was good but in no way spicy. The red sauce was fermented and had gone bad. My dad got a $16 drink that was TINY. I'm sure it wasn't terrible, but at that price? That tiny cup was an insult, especially with the amount of ice it had. His burrito was bland and boring. I got a mole tamale. The mole sauce was actually good, but the inside was awful. Vegetarian doesn't have to mean unseasoned. Speaking of seasoning, the potatoes on my plate were insanely over-salted. They also seemed dry due to reheating, as if they had been made earlier in the day and been heated up before serving. The beans were a black, uniform mush. Bad. The pico the gallo had CUCUMBER in it?? I'm sorry, what???The service was good, attentive. They seemed overworked, the space is too big to pay attention to every customer properly, but they tried. My chair was hella wonky and creaky. I'd be more lenient if it wasn't a place with $20 plates. Bathroom smelled and was also subpar in terms of facilities. Seriously. If I were anywhere else, I wouldn't bat an eye. I'm south american for godssake, I'm used to things being a mess, but this was SO EXPENSIVE. Where is this money going?Awful management, bad menu. They need to rethink these dishes in terms of the vegetable that takes a spotlight. I've had pumpkin mole tamales that are amazing, why not something like that? Vegetarian food needs to focus on the vegetable, and treat it like any other meat protein. When you get tacos, you get al pastor, or carnitas, or carne asada. The focus is the main protein. Do that with a specific vegetable, build the dish around itAnyways. If you want to waste your money and wait for a table, go here. If you want to eat well, cross the street and walk to Mission Chinese Food, or walk a few blocks over to Taqueria Vallarta. Or hell, if you want overpriced, culturally-appropriated Mexican food, go to West of Pecos. Overpriced, not worth it, but much better. Better ambiance, better drinks. Bring your mans there, make him pay the bill. Take him here and he'll probably insist on choosing the restaurant next time.

Service is hands down exceptional especially the host who made us feel special and was on top of our reservation. Our waitress was awesome and everything was top notch. As a chips and salsa expert, I left feeling I paid a lot of money for mediocre chips and bland salsas that don't say ZING! The tacos plate was filling and the beans on point.

Wasn't busy, plenty of staff. Got seated next to bathroom in the back, although other tables were open, in the corner next to the virgin mary and a plant.Waited over 10 minutes for someone to recognize we hadn't been helped yet. Someone came over and asked if we had been helped yet, we said no, he walked away. Waited another 5 minutes and then a woman came near us gestured to our table and asked another girl " is this table 10?" They walked away.. Finally a lady came to table our order. Food was decent no complains. The basil mango margharita was yummy. We sat and no one came over. Had to flag someone down to get our check and left. Wish the service was better for a vegan restaurant.

Service was top notch not one complaint, but your chips and salsa is disappointing and unflavorful. Tacos were too sweet and lacked flavor. Prices too high for value. Drinks were ridiculous pricedb all ice, but my skinny Margarita was made right. I just don't think many of us enjoyed the food. Even the flan we think the sugar was forgotten. New recipes would be an improvement and $9.00 for chips with a tiny cup of flavorless pico de gallo? Forget you!

Great place for a dinner for 2-6 people. Delicious food, great atmosphere. The service was a bit awkward. Not attending to plates that needed to be cleared. Bringing extra spoons and new plates for dessert, that sort of thing. But the staff is very friendly and nice! Wonderful evening.

Always a great experience at gracias madre. The best Mexican vegan food in SF

It’s a cute restaurant and the service was great!! Food came quickly, it was hot. It just wasn’t very flavorful.

Was worried the pandemic may have ruined this restaurant, but pleased to say it was still a wonderful experience. The food was still amazing
