Not a terrible place to get lunch. I got the white chowder. The price is about average ($12) and portion was excellent. The chowder itself had good flavor but was too salty. Went well with the bread bowl but hard to drink by itself. There were ample seating though which is why I ended up here as all other restaurants had a long wait for a seat

Good food at great prices with a really nice view of the Pier. Quick service with ample indoor and outdoor seating. We had the clam chowder (red, Manhattan style) in the sourdough bread bowl, fish and chips, fish salad bowl and crab meat sandwich and chicken sandwich. All of them were good with the fish salad being the best and red clam chowder being a close second. The red chowder seemed to taste like marinara with clam though with a great bread. The also have soda and hot beverages.

Great food, I got the fried fish, it was good but nothing special, typical fried fish. Both my friends, however, got fish sandwitches and they claimed the food was absolutely amazing. So I would have to recommend the sandwitches. Considering the price though (especially for California), the food was very good. Big cities usually have inflated food prices for tourists, not the case at Chowders.

Excellent white chowder. It's my favorite in the city. I have to make a trip down to the Pier every time I come through San Francisco. Been coming here for years.

The shrimp cocktail wasn't bad either. Atmosphere was busy and you can smell the sea on the air. Would reccomend eating here for sure.

We ordered popcorn shrimp + chowder bowls and it was so filling and good. I especially love the popcorn shrimp with the sauce they gave. The chowders was a little bit underwhelming. For the red one, it was so dry and hard to eat with the bread. For the white one, it was bland. The appetizers are very good here though. THERE ARE NO RESTROOMS HERE but they are directly across the restaurant. Quick service and nice employees.

Good clam chowder soup and fried lobster cakes. Self service. In a very nice location. The restaurant itself is not the prettiest but the food is good!

Our favourite place to have clam chowder while we are at around San Fransisco. Its located at Pier39. Served with sour dough makes the chowder taste more delicious. The seafood basket also good to taste.

Really good chowder !!! Would definitely recommend it. However the portion size of the fish and chips could be bigger for the price.

Nice place to spend time dining, for desert, or just look at the sea lions
