Such incredible food and atmosphere. Some of the dishes were even spicy, which most ethiopian spots in the US don't do. Great experience.
Very nice family, but for Ethiopian food I suggest elsewhere.I went to Axum as I was in the Haight area and thought it convenient. I usually go to an alternative Ethiopian Restaurant. I will not go back to Axum.I would like to review this friendly family owned place with 5 stars, but to be honest, the food was not good. I enjoyed the sponge bread and left the rest of the expensive meal. The meat is good, the veggie is bad. Spinach is bland, mushrooms are too spicy * and I like spicy food, the lentils and chick pea was mush and had no taste. The atmoshere is a "dive" with cheap table and chairs. Not very clean.. Fine if you enjoy that type of dining.I can not recommend Axum.
This is a wonderful little, inviting place. I had never had Ethiopian cuisine and the server(I think an owner) was so so nice in explaining everything. The food was DELICIOUS!
The food was incredible. Some of the best Ethiopian I've ever had. The Injeera had just the right amount of kick and enough body to it. The veggie combo was filling and tasty.I so tried the kintishara - spicy and yummy
A simple place with homely simple food that hits the spot. I had the Tibsie Lamb with njira that's a kind of flat bread. If you enjoy spicy food, give this place a try.
I’m a big Ethiopian food lover and Axum did not disappoint! We ordered the veggie platter and it was super flavorful with a variety of textures and vibrant colors. It came with a side of fluffy yet dense injera that was perfectly sour. I will be back very soon! Thanks for the great experience.
We had the veggie combination for two and it was awesome! Amazing flavor and big portions. Would definitely come again. Only thing lacking was that they were out of the Ethiopian honey wine.
Phenomenal Ethiopian food! My kid and I got the veggie platter for 2 and were stuffed! Sooooo good! A couple of the items on the platter had a spicy kick, and my teen ate around them. We both left happy !
This place was absolutely fantastic. The service, the food, you cannot go wrong. ❤️
The place serves good Ethiopian food, and it's a great spot for vegetarians. The injera bread (a sour, fermented flatbread - more delicious than it sounds!) is served on the side probably because of COVID. Normally there's a layer underneath all the yummy goodness. For a group of four, we ordered the Vegetarian Platter for 3 + a meat entree. It was the perfect amount, and they provide just enough injera that we didn't have any left to take home. The staff is so friendly. It seems to be a family establishment. While we were there, someone struck up a traditional instrument and serenaded us. They have opened indoor dining for now, but takeout seemed to be the most popular option.
