Place was amazing!! Food was fantastic! I had the Chicken Katsu Curry, it was so good I had to order another plate to go! I can't wait to come back! Maybe I'll get a little more adventurous and try a spicier level! The staff were on top of everything. The place has Japanese decor as well as my fav art peice "The Great Wave of Kanagawa" definitely a place I will suggest to my Navy fam.
The quality of the curry is very good, however the portion size makes this a very expensive restaurant. Got the Oyster Curry at a heat level of 4. It was very tasty, but not very filling. Nearby katsu restaurants have double the portions, provide miso soup, salad, and macaroni salad along with their entrees, and all at a lower price.
Japanese curry spot based in Las Vegas opened here in San Diego couple of years ago. Curry broth made from scratch with variety of vegetables and blend of numerous spices to make up a flavorful dish. Definitely take an advantage of their weekday specials to try out some of their signature curry dishes! 10 levels of spice level, I first started at 5. Plenty of parkings in this strip mall across from Ranch 99 Chinese supermarket. They have increased their price a bit so checkout the updated menu for current price.
Yummy! My taste buds are still not 100% back after CoVid but they're slowly getting there. I can taste some things more than others and this definitely tasted yummy. My husband ordered the brisket curry and enjoyed it. 4/5 for him. I ordered the pork belly bowl, edamame and fried gyoza to share with my toddler and he liked it all (well, minus the seaweed bits of course).
Takeout last week was sans meat. Called Zen Curry. Said they'd write my name and give me credit next week (27 Feb). Established this when ordering takeout. Arrived, was denied, was told I do this often (which is untrue -- this was the first time and the truth). Asked to speak to the manager who would not meet me. Instead was subjected to clerk who simply yelled at me. I was insistent yet calm. He finally got my last name, and apparently they thought I was another Jim. They gave me a 50% and not the promised 100% discount on an order, but by that time I was too tired to argue. Please be aware of an error- and yelling-prone staff and consequently, abysmal and even disturbing "service".
I am on a spree of trying out new places to eat in SD. I was in mood for some flavorful food and looked up for Asian places in/around Convoy. This place instantly caught my eye and I decided to get the Rice, Spinach Japanese Curry with Tofu and a Ramen Egg. I went with a spice level of 7/10 and it was perfect for me! Everything in my plate was mouth watering good. No doubt that I’ll be going back for more. They have a couple of other vegetarian options in the menu that I’ll be trying next time.
ZEN SPECIAL $16.50 (to go)Chicken katsu, Mozzarella cheese, Kurobuta sausages. Curry on the side for to-go orders.
Ordered a Ono Combo Curry. Highly recommended, especially the fried pork, it’s thick cut and the meat is super tender and juicy!
Every trip down south is a must curry. Always consistent, savory, umami. A delight for your taste buds. Every. Trip. Hands down my favourite Katsu Curry joint.
Chicken Katsu and curry moco were good! Update the menu.
