What a gem in Historic Mission Hills. Came here for a date night making a reservation about a week in advance. The blend of cultures in their wine selection and food selection is unique and I unlike anything I’ve seen in San Diego.Additionally, the aesthetics are New Mexican and so cozy you feel like you are in someone’s home eating dinner with them.Favorite dish was the Sweet Corn Soup. Do not miss!
Excellent dining experience and sure to become a fresh new staple in the fine dining of San Diego. Service was friendly and helped us celebrate with a complimentary champagne toast and helped us pick a great bottle of wine for dinner. She was also able to provide blankets for cozy patio seating. Each dish we tried was exceptional and unique. The wood hen mushroom polenta, corn pinon soup and citrus cured salmon were all standouts. For dessert I felt the hatch Chile chocolate cake brought an extra level of warmth and depth to an already moist and ideal cake. Parking was a breeze but I would recommend reservations most nights as the restraunt space is limited.
Amazing dinner at Wolf In the Woods in Mission Hills last night. This is a New Mexican style bistro, owned by Johnny Rivera of Great Maple and Hash House a Gogo.It is hidden in a super residential area, with elegant and casual decor and excellent service. Our waitress Bobby was fantastic. The food is delicious and pretty. The menu has a lot of vegetarian options and meat options like a burger, fish, duck and clams, and calamari and octopus tapas. I wish they had a steak or pork chop on the menu.We had one of the best dinners in San Diego.
This unique take on European bistro is a really cool experience, and makes for a great date night experience that feels away from the bustle of the city. Nestled in a street side corner, there is both indoor and outdoor seating right on the sidewalk. The service was excellent, and the venue had a relaxed candle-lit feel to it. I would recommend making a reservation if you’re planning on eating here! For food, we ordered their namesake snack - the wolf in the woods cheese platter, and it was incredible. They curated a great selection of cheeses and crackers/bread to enjoy. I highly recommend this snack. We also ordered Their yellowtail aqua Chile tostada to share. For our entrees, we ordered the duck & three sisters as well as their N.M. Skillet Mini Burger. Both were delicious, the duck was some of the best I’ve had in San Diego, and the burger was incredible. For its small size, the quality and flavor was definitely present. For dessert we ordered the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta. All the food was delicious and well made.
Very elegant ding experience! Their tapas plates are just the right size. The presentation was exquisite as you can see from my uploaded photo. Each bite was very flavorful . Would recommend a date night here!
Very nice location with a unique menu. On the other hand, the calamari was much too salty, the sauce the octopus was odd. Finally, the tables are tiny and too close together, and the noise level was horrendous. On the plus side, our server was excellent.
I made a reservation at 7pm to celebrate a birthday. Our table was not ready when we arrived and 20 minutes later when we asked the host he said that the people at our table had paid but were not leaving and he couldn't ask them to leave so we could continue to wait outside or sit at the bar. Now, over 30 minutes later of still waiting the girl behind the bar is apologizing for our wait. No one even offered us a complimentary drink for the long wait until I asked that they provide us one given we were waiting over 30 minutes now for a reservation I made weeks ago. After being seated I found the food to be too salty. Finally at the end of the meal, when we asked for a birthday candle because we were celebrating a birthday, we were told they don't have birthday candles and they didn't even comp the dessert for the birthday! I wouldn't recommend this place - especially not for a birthday dinner - and I wouldn't come again.
I wanted to love this. I did not. Most important part of this review — Try it for yourself but for the love of god, don’t eat indoors unless you want to walk out smelling like your (and everyone else’s) dinner. I could not get out of there fast enough.Breaking down my review —Decor: impeccably done, charm out the wazoo (but see warning above)Wine list: great, lots of the by the glass optionsFood: average, menu a little hard to parse, tapas were served in order from least messy to most (not even kidding)Service: meh (possible our server had too many tables)
So here’s the thing: I haven’t been here physically but I had an experience with the owner. We were shopping and I noticed a lady with several nice blankets in her cart in front of us. While waiting for our cashier, I couldn’t help but overhear part of a conversation. …we own a restaurant and have customers outside. It’s cold out so I’m buying blankets to keep them warm.” I asked which restaurant she owned and that’s how I came to write a review based on an outside experience of kind owners thinking of their customers aside from a check. We will definitely be dining here soon but until then, this review will have to do! Thank you for being kind when you thought nobody would notice!! ??
wonderful selection of small plates with a quaint atmosphere. really enjoyed dining here!
