iâve been to the union kitchen and tap in encinitas a ton and was hoping the gas lamp location would be just as good. the service took forever. we got there at 5:30 and didnât get food until 6:20. the mac and cheese we ordered was just dry noodles. and we paid an extra $4 for andouille sausage with it for there to only be 3 bites of sausage. definitely wasnât worth $18. the âgumboâ was not gumbo. the sauce was just full of tabasco and vinegar and tasted like there was soy sauce in it. we also had a card out for the check and waited about 15 minutes and never got it so we had to get up and check out at the bar. wasnât impressed by the food at all but the drinks were good.
Evening was really off. Everything ran slow. The appetizer hit the table followed by our meals about 20 seconds later. Food quality was average and options limited on the menu.
Food was great but poor service made it less enjoyable. Not that busy but still no smiles, had to ask for drinks to be refilled, ask for appetizer plates etc. Service was provided by 4 different servers but not sure which the tip was going to. The appetizer (garlic fries) was described by the menu as âshareableâ but was very small, especially for the price. Even in this market and in Gaslamp, it was very overpriced.

The staff is great, and so is the food! My table ordered truffle fries however they were devoured so quickly I couldn’t get a photo! The food is absolutely amazing, and has one of the best Cesar salads I’ve had to date!
Reserved a table online for 6pm on July 11th. Matt was our server and he offered up great suggestions! Was pleasantly surprised to see a non alcoholic beer that wasn't Heineken 0.0! Lagunitas N/A Ipa was fantastic! Ordered cornbread for appetizer. I ordered the steak frites, which was phenomenal. Upgraded to truffle fries which was worth the price (IMHO). Boyfriend had the union burger which he commented on the bun being really good, otherwise a typical burger. Matt was super, frequently checked in on us. Would definitely return!
We had an enjoyable meal. We had the Union Burger and the Blackened chicken wrap, which were delicious. Our server was very attentive and courteous.
Gaslamp Restaurant with a vibe. Centrally located with airy outside seating. Great for larger groups. Everyone is pleasant.
Food was terrible. 3 out of 4 meals were incorrect.
Good atmosphere, cold beer, and super dog friendly!
