The two main ingredients for all ramen are the noodles and the broth. Unfortunately, Underbelly struck out on both. The noodles were over cooked and too soft. The broth was thin. I had the Underbelly Ramen. I did like the addition of the pulled pork and the chashu was also good. The egg was perfectly cooked but could have used more time in the marinade. I liked the flavor of the beef gyoza but prefer the traditional, steamed type. Atmosphere was awesome.
a unique atmosphere and setting not typical for a ramen restaurant, very modern :). Food and staff were great
A nice experience here. The Belly of the Beast Ramen was unlike any ramen I’ve had. Have not found a better ramen yet. My friend enjoyed her food. Can’t remember the name of our appetizer but tasty also. Worth the trip .
Pretty much at the corner end of North Parks bar area, Underbelly does have some good ramen. One place I haven't been yet for ramen, so I had to go. You know North Park there isn't parking so just find one around the housing.I ordered the chicken Kaarage and of course the underbelly ramen. The kaarage was really good, usually ramen spot kaarage isn't as good but they did it right. Juicy and good crunchy. The ramen was surprisingly good. The only thing I didn't like was that it was heavily on veggies so it over took the ramen bowl. Broth was creamy and noodles to broth ratio was equal. I'm not gonna take away the greens from the ramen but it wasn't something I prefer. The pork was juicy, nothing special tho.I'll have to the basic Tonkotsu ramen with no veggies next time but it does break my top 5 ramen spots at #5. Due to locations, underbelly will be a spot I sporadically go to when I'm in the area. Always gotta down the bowl. On to the next spot.
First time here and we truly enjoyed an amazing meal in an awesome atmosphere! Everything we ordered, both the tempura eggplant bao, the chicken confit ramen, and the OG underbelly ramen, was all so skillfully prepared with amazing umami flavor! The beautiful ube colada tasted as delicious as it looked! The quick service was an added bonus too! This place is a great date night locale! High-five stars all around! Will definitely come back next time we're in the North Park area.
I had the best spontaneous adventure to Underbelly. My grandma and I were lost in downtown San Diego. Eventually I drove to Underbelly and it was the perfect timing. Every team member provided an experience that was welcoming. The menu is full of Japanese comfort foods. One of the managers, Sydney, was a charismatic bartender. Sydney's skills inspired 6 customers to order twice as many drinks because of the way she crafted them. I look forward to my next meal here.
Great environment, really good ramen. Gyozas good too!
The chicken Ramen was really good. The mango margarita tasted really odd. Im not sure if it was the liquor but it had an odd taste. And the menu online isn't up to date so don't be fooled.
I loved this place. After an intimidating Friday evening arrival where we were 20 deep in the queue for dinner, the line moved swiftly. Maybe 20 minutes to get table. This place looks like the future of dining. Place your order before eating. Restaurant is open and airy. Interaction with wait staff is less than a typical place. But they were prompt, friendly and responsive. And the food — oh, the food. As first timers we went with the popular dishes of Underbelly, vegetarian and chicken ramen. Sides of Kim-chi, edamame and baos. Took a pass on the beers which they suggest highly. Maybe next time. The vibe of the place — on a beautiful evening — exciting. While filled with diners in their 20s, early 30s, the place is good for all ages.
The food was fantastic! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable while serving our food in a very timely manner.
