Great spot. I always knew I could come here to get some great ribeyes, but recently I tried their sandwiches....WOW! The peppered turkey is amazing, but don't forget to check out the specials while you're there! I also love the staff. They are super helpful and are always ready to explain the selection they have (and cooking recommendations when I try a new cut).
The Wise Ox is one of those rare, incredible foodie spots because it nails the following: quality, consistency, service, and of course, taste. I go for the sandwiches, namely the Philly cheese steak (won't find a better one this side of Philly) and the burger (dare I say the best "fast-casual" burger in town)! EVERY SINGLE.TIME. the food is amazing. The value that I've found in all of the Trust Restaurant Group spots is they have an uncanny ability to pack so much flavor in every single bite so that empty feeling your can get for "paying too much for too little" doesn't exist and you'll be happy you visited. The menu is restrained which keeps all the incredible choices a *little* easier to sort thru, even though you'll be tempted to try every item after your first sandwich. If you're looking for a break from mundane sandwiches and something that will leave you satisfied, go to the Wise Ox. And even though I haven't tried all of their butchery items, I can vouch for the variety of quality choices you'll see when you enter.
Great quality stuff, but I've had to wait 45 minutes to get a sandwich and fries multiple times. Don't come if you're in a hurry.
We've been patrons of The Wise Ox for quite awhile so I'm bummed to leave this review, but lately it's been disappointing to go in here. Don't get me wrong, the quality of the goods and their prepared food is fabulous. But we loved coming here for the friendly neighborhood feeling and great, helpful service. And lately that has been lacking. When we call to ask a simple question or go in, it almost feels like we're being an inconvenience simply by being customers. I understand everyone's burnt out these days. But we've been 100% loyal and I think it's time to start frequenting some other butcher shops.
Excellent local butcher shop. We stopped in yesterday to pick up something special for NYE at home and left with a marinated Santa Maria - style tri tip and a container of onion dip.The employees were friendly and helpful, and the place was well-stocked with wines and anything else you’d want to put together a great meal.
Tons to offer from steaks to sauerkraut to amazing sandwiches. And, there might be other great burgers in SD but there’s not a better one.
This place is phenomenal! I’m so happy I found this venue. They have a great selection of quality meats, wine, and sauces. Their sandwiches were so delicious I almost bought extra for my next meal. If you are into grilling, smoking, or cooking I highly recommend checking this place out. The customer service was great and they even have a monthly meat box you can pick up that contains a variety of their best cuts. Highly recommend checking them out!
Great butcher spot! Guys were helpful and quick with a dry aged monster tomahawk. I definitely recommend for a great meal!
Sandwiches are amazing. Have had the Turkey chipotle and the roast beef. Have heard a lot about the burger but haven’t had it yet!
My review is for the AMAZING Pork Chop Tomahawk cut that I prepared last night from this butcher. I went online to be sure that I was preparing it correctly because at $20 for one pork chop, I didn't want to blow it. Let me tell you, it was worth every stinkin penny! My husband couldn't believe how moist and tasty it was. The pork belly like pieces on the curve of the bone came out like little treats with the one-inch slits they made to help make them cook right. Next time, I'm definitely buying two cuz I don't want to share the next one! I'm sorry to hear they got hit on reviews for people who order & pay online having to wait along with others who are in line to order. Perhaps putting orders in a bag with their name at a designated spot and asking each patron when they walk in if they ordered online would solve that issue (you can always pause in helping another customer for the 5 seconds it would take to find out). Anyway, I will definitely be back and try more product!
