We arrived about 45 minutes prior to closing, and they gladly seated us. Order consisted of a hurricane (strong but delicious) gator sausage that was sliced then seared on both sides (genius) dark roux gumbo that had such a deep delicious flavor, and lord help me the crawfish etouffe! You’ve never had anything like it. The ambiance is fantastic as well. You truly feel like you’re in the south.
This is a small creole food cafe tucked away in Old Town San Diego. The dining room looks like an old school room. Cute! I had a shrimp dish which was very good. I even tried the alligator/pork sausage appetizer. It tasted like the pork it was mixed with but chewier. It's best to make a reservation not because it's crowded but so the cook will know how many are coming.
New Orleans Creole Cafe is worth your time and Taste Buds! This restaurant is situated in a nice quiet spot in Old Town San Diego. The Nice and Amazing gentlemen that runs this establishment is the cook and server so you may have to wait a little longer than normal, but trust me it’s well worth the wait! For appetizer’s I ordered the Blackened Alligator Sausage and my wife ordered the French Onion Soup, house salad with Balsamic vinaigrette. For the main course I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee and my wife ordered the Dark Roux Gumbo, we stopped halfway through the meal to make room for the Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce which makes your tastebuds jump with joy and pleasure. This nice cozy restaurant has a special atmosphere of its own and is well worth your time and tastebuds. My wife and I will be back for sure.
This Cafe is the best! Food is very legit. Owners are wonderful and want your dining experience to be very memorable. My family and I always plan dining here when in town. You'll miss out if you don't give this place a try. They put love into every single dish, so bring your patience. It is more than worth it.
The best Cajun Food in SD. One of my favorite places to eat at. I always make it a part of my visit when im in SD and the owners are the best!
They were about to close when we arrived since it was a quiet night as they said. But they were SO nice that they opened the restaurant for us and still accommodated us. Outside of the amazingly friendly service and the place that makes you feel like home, the food was way beyond expectation and great. I specifically recommend Crawfish Etouffee and French Onion Soup - you won’t be disappointed!
This place IS AMAZING!! New Orleans dilishesness! Their recipes are family recipes handed down through generations. The food was out of this world. We had Jambalaya, red beans and rice, chicken Creole, crawfish, French onion soup, fried shrimp, salad and a whiskey bread pudding that we just couldn’t stop eating!! The Petite plates were plenty for one person. I highly recommend this place. It’s small and quaint. I would for sure make reservations. They have patio seating as well. The two guys who own it, serve and cook everything. They were delightful. It was truly a great experience! The aroma and presentation of the food was to die for that we dove right in and forgot to take any pictures! ?
We had such a lovely experience!! Delicious food, I got the BBQ Shrimp and Rice (it was divine!!!), the kindest folks, the quaintest little place, and the best service! Go to the kitchen door to ask for a table!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had! Not just because of the super-delicious food, but also because of the highly attentive and warm service.
My girlfriend and I literally plan our San Diego trips around this restaurant. Many times it's been the sole reason we come down from Los Angeles. This restaurant is located right next to the Whaley house which adds to the ambience of the restaurant. The restaurant itself has a cozy feel to it both inside and out.The Crawfish Etouffee and Shrimp Creole are our Go-To dishes and have never disappointed. I've been told by local couple that the French Onion soup is also a specialty. Don't forget the sweet tea and bread pudding!
