My adult children and I were looking for a late-night dinner and decided to hit Islands after our other choice was a no-go. We were immediately welcomed and seated, and our very friendly and sweet waitress brought drinks. For our appetizer, we chose the guacamole and chips (freshly made!) and were not disappointed! They were crisp and delicious. The guacamole was very good and the salsa was excellent! I had the grilled fish tacos. We all loved our food. I thought I'd plow right through those three tacos, but after the chips, I only managed two. I saved the last one for lunch today (as well as my daughter's yummy leftover fries!) and had a second truly enjoyable meal. I cannot compliment the management and staff highly enough. First, for hiring friendly, energetic staff and second for having excellent food, generous portions, and a great atmosphere. I know the Padres were playing (on screens all over), but I miss watching the surfing videos. Do they only play them during the day or something? Sacrilegious I know, but maybe they could have had some tv's on surfing and the rest on the game? I'll be back!
Excellent style of burgers with some unique creations, and the fries are really good. As are the nachos. As are the variety of drinks on the menu. Though I do miss the Mavericks burger very much.Sometimes the service can be a bit slow, but that doesn't impact the quality of the food.
Awesome to visit during happy hour 4-7 M-FWine and beer 2-4$ off, good selection of snacks.Have to sit in the bar area.Excellent food. I like the sliders served in lettuce.
l ordered an organic hot tea and only got hot water in a cup. It wasn't until I opened the cup of tea I noticed no tea bag was in there or in the islands bag. The ketchup sauces were glued together with honey so I couldn't use them.I also bought a burger with a fried egg in the burger. It had burnt crispy eggshells in it.
friendly service and great food!
I went here with a girlfriend and the food was delicious! I taste-tested the tuna and decided to have a tuna sandwich on gluten-free bread. It came with fries and I ordered them extra crispy. My friend ordered the fried green beans for an appetizer in addition to a burger. The green beans came and, my goodness they were good! I had never had them before. They were hot, fresh, and crispy. My sandwich was perfect - there was a ton of tuna in it and it was soooo yummy! The fries were done perfectly crispy, as requested.I had a lot of leftovers and my husband said the fries were the best he has ever had. It has been quite a while since I went to an Islands and it did not disappoint. ♡
Islands: "Fine burgers and drinks."I dare say not.I'm not even going to touch on the service (it was severely lacking, at best).I wasted $50 on two burgers that could've been bested by Jack in The Box's Buttery Jack. I wish I was kidding. It's obvious that the patties are not seasoned and little thought or effort is put into the burgers. I ordered the Hula - Swiss and sautéed mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and mayo. My burger was lukewarm and the mushrooms ontop were ice cold. Takes special talent to do that. Each bite was ruined by cold mushiness. There was no mayo. The burger was as a whole, completely dry and tasteless. I also ordered a side of the "cheese fries".Think, day old fast food fries that you nuked in a futile attempt to pep them up. Completely dry and stale. They were (what I could only guess to be) thrown into a microwave with some shredded cheese then brought out. Missing the scallions and, "housemade chili" that might've at least added some flavor. As a whole I'd skip the "Island" and go to whatever fast food burger joint you prefer; even In-N-Out would be a better option with it's 50/50 chance of the runs.Save your money and time.
Service was off, but I do understand that staffing is difficult right now. The fish was very over cooked, and the server just said that is how it always is. The French fries were very small in size, and looked and tasted like it was from the bottom of wherever they put them, and I got the very bottom of the pan. The burger was just OK, and I was hoping for something better. Islands used to be one of my old go to lunch places back when I worked, but it seems that the quality has gone down hill since then. Just not a good experience.
Excellent service! We ordered through their app and picked up with curbside and the employee who helped us (I think his name may have been Josh?) was amazing and went above and beyond. Definitely recommend ordering from here. All the employees wear masks.
Dependable burger fare as well as lots of options for healthy minded eaters. Beer selection is good with a few hard seltzer options as well.
