I had never tried Korean food and it never caught my attention. However, after reading the memoir of a Korean-American musician where she describes a variety of Korean dishes I was left craving some! I looked up Korean restaurants in San Diego and settled on Chon Ju Jip.My boyfriend and I ordered so much food - gunmandu (fried pork dumplings), gimchi jjigae (spicy kimchi soup), haemul pajeon (seafood and green onion pancake, and bibimbap (white rice with egg and vegetables). Everything was absolutely delicious, I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Each spoonful was packed with flavors and warmth. The place feels and looks authentic as soon as you walk in. I can’t wait to be back!

Secret is out! One of the best Korean restaurant if not the best in San Diego. No frill authentic mom & pop restaurant. Lunch specials are still a great deal. Banchan (small side dishes that comes with order of entree) is decent. It’s better to go with few people to share big plates.

Spicy pork and all the little side dishes were exactly what I was looking for. Even a beer from Seoul. It's usually a good sign when a Korean restaurant is full of Korean customers, and that characterizes this place exactly.

Absolutely outstanding Korean food. Their Gamjatang had a rich and fragrant taste, and the meat melted in my mouth. Don't forget about the kimchi chigae and the bibimbap, they were both really good. Portions were giant, prices were great, tasty and plentiful side dishes, and good service.

I love this spot. The prices a very reasonable, the food is delicious and the portions are huge. All the soups that I have tried are super flavorful and loaded with delicious ingredients. The entrées come with rice and yummy pickled sides. If you like steamed dumplings you have to try their Jjimandu, it comes with their homemade soy sauce and it's loaded with fresh green onions; delicious! If you are super hungry or dining with others you have to try one of their pancakes. They have two.types a seafood one and a kimchi veggie one in the case that you are not into seafood. While their soups.are my favorite, I did recently try the Bimbimap + Soup Combo and am so glad I did. It's a quite a lot of food and a perfect mix of hot and cold; super satisfying. All in all I recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for good Korean food. It's my #1 go-to spot.

Best Korean food quality, quantity and variety to price ratio of the three different places I've been on convoy. All their stuff is perfectly seasoned, like banchan isn't too sweet or vinegary. I prob won't go anywhere else

Food was good and all the staff are very friendly! A must visit while in San Diego!

Wonderful beef tofu soup and the small dishes are excellent!

They have very simple dishes. Feels like homemade style fare. The restaurant is also small, so it feels like I'm eating at someone's home. The food is very good.

Good kimchi stew. Feels like a family run place with Korean grandma cooking. Serve cold boricha with the meal.. Bonchon is good. Fav place so far in San Diego.
