Came here with a group of 22, which they were able to accommodate after some prep, but in 3 different areas. Great authentic chips and salsa, with a tasty but mild spice salsa.House margarita is good, but quite sweet, and very large. A very good value. The Chicken Chimi was very good, especially the enchilada sauce, yum..Where the restaurant lost the point is when about half the party had finished their food, the busser came and cleared plates, glasses, chips and salsa, and then lurked...waiting to rush more food away. One of our party didn't get to finish the $13 margarita because we felt pressure to clear the table. Very awkward for sure. So, if you want a relaxed meal, skip here on a weekend night. Maybe midweek is better. Not sure if I would come back because of the end user service, but the food was legit.
This is definitely a tourist location in the heart of old town. The food was okay, but I got two tiny tacos for the cost of $17 AND they gave me the wrong tacos. The greeter was awful. Her name is Jane and she had horrible customer service. I understood the messages she was trying to convey but she did it with an attitude instead of being a greeter that makes a positive first impression. Our server Fidel was great! He was super sweet and helpful. But just starting off with that whole negative experience from their greeter, I feel like they need to move her to a different spot. Anyway it's three stars because even though I was upset with the greeter, our server made it a better experience.
This is an amazing Mexican restaurant. Great food and great vibes! The menu is extensive and the food portions are quite good. The complimentary chips and salsa tasted fresh and tasty. I really enjoyed the lime and lemon margarita de la casa, it was quite strong, it comes in three sizes, s/m/l.The grilled chicken and mango quesadilla was really good. Slightly sweet due to small mango chunks and overall very different. From the favorites section, we ordered the Guadalajara chimichanga, and loved it. Not too cheesy and very flavorful. The place is very colorful and has outdoor and indoor seating sections.
It was our son-in-law's 30th birthday so we had a large (6) family group for dinner. The wait was not long (walk-in only) and the place was lively, colorful and obviously popular. The mariachi band was hokey in the extreme, but good fun. The portions were huge; no one cleaned his plate, but the food was good. An extensive menu with all the ususal Mexican dishes plus some more interesting ones.
This restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn where we stayed. I loved that we didn't have to hassle with parking, but if you drive there, they have a good-sized parking lot. The outdoor patio was lovely. Both the food and the staff were excellent. The restaurant was very clean. We will dine here next time we are in town again.
You will eat great food at a fair price. Portions are big, so don't over-order. If you want to sip on your margarita and pace yourself, don't order your food right away, it comes out quickly. The service is slow and you seemed to be served by everyone, but the the overall experience is still excellent. Highly recommended; family friendly!
We ate here twice on our trip to the area. The first time was an early dinner because our hotel room wasn't ready. We sat in the bar and had amazing service. He was taking orders, making drinks, and managing it all in a friendly and efficient manner. The food was fantastic. The portions are huge and everything was seasoned perfectly. The tortillas were fresh and flavorful. Probably the best tortillas we've had at a restaurant. The next day we returned for a late dinner and sat in the dining room. Our server was a bit gruff and not at all attentive like the one we had the day before. She almost seemed annoyed by our presence. The food was still good with huge portions, and of course the tortillas were amazing and fresh. Our drinks were not quite as good as the previous day. We might have ordered another round to see if those were better, but she seemed impatient to get us out of the table, so we left. Based on the food, alone, we would definitely return if ever in the area again and will recommend to others who are in San Diego.
First of all, watch your bill. Went with co-workers for a celebration. Some of us paid with credit card and some cash. All the credit cards were charge twice, one with tip and one without. Called my bank and was told to see if I could work out with establishment. The manager blamed the bank....funny that several banks made the same mistake. In fact, I called the same day and the manager asked me if I had called the day before, so apparently it is an on going issue.. I filed a dispute with my bank and got the credit. The food was OK, typical Mexican/American tourist food.
I was so disappointed in the Tostada de Jalisco. The tostada shell was soggy from the toppings and really not much of a salad. The beans were soupy and the seasoning on the shredded beef was blah. Would not order it again. The same goes for the Shrimp and Avocado crisp Special. Nothing crispy in it. Beans were soupy. It looked like stew. Would not order again. We are great fans of Diana’s Powers Casa de Bandini and was very disappointed in our lunch. The positives are that the ambience was nice and our waiter was great
To think and see that management is actually the ones that are rude, unethical, racist, downgrading their employees, have no empathy and have completeley disregard towards their employees. Last Saturday this is exactly what I witnessed from a so called Manager Julie. She treated her employees like trash, right infront of the employee's family that were eating at the restaurant! She is in the wroong business. She should not have the position she has, she is NOT a people person. I was sickened to see this type of behavior when I was trying to enjoy a nice dinner. Great staff, great bartenders great food
