been visiting San Diego from Chicago for a week with my boyfriend, and we needed a good coffee to start our day and keep us moving with the time change. Stopped by this cute little cafe right near Petco Park, and the barista (I don’t know her name but she was the absolute sweetest) made my boyfriend and I the best coffee we have had all trip. I have a caffeine intolerance, and being able to have decaf espresso is the only thing I can tolerate. She made two of the best Vietnamese Iced Espressos I’ve ever had. Definitely a favorite and will be back next time we visit ❤️
This is a wonderful little cafe in the East Village neighborhood of downtown San Diego, an area where parking is difficult but not too expensive. I'll typically go there on a Sunday and get a regular coffee -- their coffee is far better than what I get at Starbucks or Peet's -- and an almond croissant and a sandwich or panini, typically ham and swiss or something similar. I've only been here few times, but every time the coffee, the pastry, and the sandwich were excellent, and it's a nice environment, although the outdoor seating is simply a few small tables on the sidewalk. I have only one real complaint with Café de l'Opéra, and that's that the place closes way too early, around 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
Good taste of music. Worst latte I’ve ever had… too bland, too hot, doesn’t taste like latte/milk but more cocoa. food is okay. I asked for dine in but all were in paper wrappers (my neighbors get plates & cups though). Overall not impressed (especially the coffee).
Lovely spot for breakfast. We went to the place across the street that was busy with the line out the door and the staff giggling at the register. We started back towards our hotel and saw a small menu sign and decided to walk in. The coffee was so good we bought beans to bring home. We had two ciabatta breakfast sandwiches and an almond croissant. It was all authentic and delicious. The restaurant serves on real plates reducing waste. I will definitely avoid the crowds at the other spots and come directly here next time.
They put the level of French bakery very high in San Diego. We tried several pastries and their breakfast sandwiches. The almonds croissants is just amazing, good balance of almond dough, not too sweet and the entire croissant is warm and crunchy. I finally found a place where the Coffee taste naturally like it should be.Btw, je suis français ?? , feeling kind of super objective here ?
Oh my goodness! This place has the most delicious pastries!! The egg sandwich on a croissant was amazing! Blueberry cheese croissant was amazing! Americano coffee was delicious! Staff were wonderful! Will be back! Oh, and we bought more pastries to go! ?
I stopped by here for dessert. I had their cappucino with their lemon ricotta cupcake. I took an almond croissant home. Many places don't know how to make a croissant and keep the butter from burning out of it, therby losing the softness we all know and love in a croissant. This place did it right, and filled it will just the right amount of almond paste. Not too much or too little. It was dusted with powdered sugar and topped with almonds to make a neat presentation. The little bistro is just as you'd imagine, cute high top tables, some benches and a glass case full of French patisserie, brownies, and cookies. They have salads and bowls as well as breakfast. A cute little stop in Gaslamp near Petco park.
The food and latte were really mediocre here. I always love to try French bakery. The barista was nice, but it’s not as great as the star ratings lead you to believe. Price was high compared to the quality of food. The egg in the sandwich seems to be out of the factory instead of cooking in house.
This is my favorite place to go in the morning. Coffee is good but pastries are the best. My friend said the sandwiches are great as well. Highly recommend!
Everything is made with love, every time. Incredible all around!
