I was really excited to try the food after hearing so many great reviews, but was severely disappointed. The Guacamole was just mashed avocados & the Carne Asada had an off taste.
Great service, food was quick and lots of it - great salsa, too!!
Food is amazing as always! Staff are wonderful. Have to try the fresh made tortillas!
for starters, i came here with my lady as soon as she drove in from out of town. the portions are bigger than most mexican restaurants. the food was tasteful and seems like they put real thought into each dish and drink. very well! very very well. ?they even make fresh tortillas from scratch. i appreciate the authentic style and taste. the red salsa that came with the chips is very well on my rolled tacos. the margarita i got gave a good buzz?? thank you and we will be back.
Whenever we come to San Diego, we HAVE to visit Old Town. We just love coming here for some yummy Mexican food. The little town is so nice. They have really done a good job redoing it. The main street is fun to walk around and visit the park. This Mexican restaurant has changed names over the years but its still the same GREAT experience. Love sitting on the outside patio watching people walk by and watching the lady make those yummy tortillas. Our server was very good and attentive and made our visit what it was! We never needed to ask for a thing! The food was so good and the drinks were amazing too. Yes its pricy but well worth it!
This review happened during CoVID (April, 2022). My wife and I went to San Diego for a short vacation. While visiting Old Town we heard of this restaurant and we saw how long the lines was so we decided to try it. I wish I could say it was a great place to it but unfortunately it was not. The service was slow. But it could have been due to how many people were there and I know business are still having issues with hiring. But it took us a while to get orders taken. We almost left and that's that I asked at least two employees that we were still waiting, The food was typical. It tasted like every other Mexican restaurant in a tourist location. The tortillas tasted great and they are hand made . I got the Chile Verde Platter and it was a bit to salty and the beans tasted good. My wife had the Chipotle Camarones and she said they tasted good. The sauce was a bit weak and it could have been seasoned better. Overall the food was ok, nothing great. Its bland and needs spices. The prices are high for what you get. But its a place you should visit while in Old Town San Diego.
I had the menudo,no flavor, the meat was tough because it was not fully cooked.Ordered some tacos to make up for the half eaten menudo, no big deal. The only highlight of the meal was being in the company of my eight family members from out of town. Did not appreciate being what felt like were being rushed out of there especially after spending a few hundred dollars for the Lousy food.
We received a coupon from our rental car company for a free appetizer so we thought we would check it out. We sat outside so we were able to watch the woman make the home made tortillas while we dined. The free appetizer was the house bean dip that was so good it was hard to stop eating it. Both of us ordered the fish tacos, mine with no shell, but hubby had them in the taco shell. The fish was fresh and delicious.
Cafe Coyote was okay. My chicken quesadilla had a strange flavor, but others in our group enjoyed their meals. Our waitress was very nice.
As a party of five, we felt luck to be seated so quickly on a very busy Saturday. We ordered drinks; they are big and yummy. The menu is extensive and the food comes very quickly (pre-cooked rice, beans, home-made tortillas and sauces). It was just okay. Nothing extraordinary, but good portions. Not sure I would go back, but the atmosphere is fun and the people are great.
