Things I did not like:1) location. Very noisy on El Camino Real. Sitting inside, we had to stop conversation when an ambulance, noisy vehicle, or motorcycle went by, which was often.2) very small $14 drinks3) My waygu steak was listed at $36 on website. I was charged $424) Halibut not on the website was $40. Other places rarely over $30 but there was a limited selection for entrees.5) Billed included a 3% kitchen charge? What is that?6) I am not cheap. I left $35 on a $155 bill for two but I just don't like all the petty charges.Things I did like:1) the entrees were good, not exceptional. I guess gourmet mexican food is kind of an oxymoron.2) The amuse bouche was a classy touch.3) service was good4) dessert was good.It looks like they are changing the restaurant name to Gema. I do wish them luck as they are competing with a lot of great restaurants in that area.

Wow, phenomenal dinner. We’ve been meaning to try this place for months, and I’m so glad we did. It’s high end Mexican cuisine like you rarely see outside of Mexico, and is done kind of as a tasting menu. Outstanding drinks, service, food, and ambiance. I don’t think people in San Clemente really know about this place, but I’ll be spreading the word. I would recommend getting one of each course per couple.

Incredible food and impeccable service. One of the best restaurants in San Clemente, and even all of Orange County!

Hands down the most flavorful faire in San Clemente

The drinks were not that good and the food was overpriced but we thought it would be worth it but turns out the food was not that good either, super small portions. It had little flavor and the enmolada was pretty dry. The tlacoyo meat was good but it was so little that you’d have to order like 3 to get full. I feel like the restaurant is trying to be too fancy and not focusing pleasing their customers. The idea is cool though, I think they just need to change their menu.

It was not a great dinner; it was a FIRST CLASS dining and culinary experience / adventure. The meal was Next Level. Second to none.

The amuse bouche’s were such a nice surprise. Reminds me of El Valle de Guadalupe dining….excellent

Service and food were incredible… a hidden gem in San Clemente!

Great people from start to finish! Very attentive , efficient and well versed on menu items snd various options. Would highly recommend for a unique Mexican cuisine!

Tamarindo has partnered with an amazing chef who is bringing San Clemente gourmet Mexican food. It is a true culinary experience. The bone marrow with corn was beyond delicious and the birria literally fall apart when you touched it with your fork. So tender and tasty! The cocktails were also created by the chef and the ones we tried were perfection. I’ll definitely be back.
