Outstanding fresh fish from Japan and very good variety in a clean and pleasantly minimalist setting. Gintei is in an unlikely location but serves some of the best sushi on the Peninsula. Sushi of this quality comes at a price (this isn't Shiki - go there if you want cheap sushi) -- this is the real deal. Gintei's rice is exceptional as well - perfect texture and seasoning. Since rice is half your nigiri, it is important that they get this right. The oysters in ponzu + other toppings are a must for oyster lovers. The tempura here looks amazing as well - will try that next time! Save room for the matcha affagato dessert.
Ordered the omakase. They didn't give us much. Two small entrees, miso soup and sushi. Very expensive.
A neighborhood gem! Great food and great service!
3.5 stars. Came for my husband's birthday on a Saturday and brought our sons for their first time as I recalled this being a little nicer sushi place from last visit almost a year ago. Overall was good, solid sushi but a bit pricier compared to similar level sushi restaurants nearby, like one of our local favorites: Amami Sushi Bistro. Seemed like they only had one server working all the tables, too, just as it started filling up after we got there, so the service was a little less attentive and she seemed to be rushing around everywhere, which took away from the ambience. I think my husband and I must have come on a slower weekday for dinner before. We like supporting local mom and pop style restaurants, but for sushi, would prefer going back to our usual favorite sushi places instead.
Food was great! Go for the gyu tan / grilled beef tongue for sure. A little expensive, but the sashimi cuts were worth it.
This is a hidden gem! The fish is definitely fresh. Ultimate sushi heaven. I will be back! Great service. I have a new go to for sushi inâSouth San Franciscoâ!
Omakase always a treat!
The sushi was outstanding, service was outstanding. I highly recommend to anyone looking for quality fish.
Waitresses were friendly and good service. Chefs did good dishes. Price is average. We enjoyed at Gintei Restaurant.
Wow! I felt like I was back in Tokyo. The fish was so fresh and sweet. It was a delight. The tempura was light and crispy. The miso soup was flavorful. It was beautifully plated too; as is the Japanese way. It wasn't cheap but it was the best sushi I've had since Tokyo. It brought back lovely memories. We'll definitely be going back, even though it's an hour from home.
