As much as I wanted this restaurant to be good, because its hard to find soul food in Sacramento. The food had potential however it was VERY salty, and a lil bland, so salty that I couldn't enjoy it. I ordered the Snapper, with black eye peas, yams, and green beans. My kids had the ribs and chicken(was slightly under cooked). Presentation was good, just PLEASE cut back on the salt.
The experience here was awful, we went there around 5:30PM my sister had already warned us about the establishment running out of items on the menu, we decided to give them a try maybe it was just a busy night. When we got there and started to order they were out of Ribs, fries, dressing and Straws I couldn’t believe being a business you could be out of so many items straws is a first for me and fries. The waitress was not friendly at all when we got our food the greens where Glory can greens the macaroni and cheese was hard the bottle of hot sauce was not enough for one piece of chicken and when we asked for another bottle she couldn’t find one we had to call the manager over he was not caring about the items they were out of his response was we are just out of it. No sweet tea oh my I’m visiting from out of town and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. We were charged for Greenbeans which my husband asked for three times and never received the waitress got upset when we asked her to take it off the bill. People where leaving we should have followed.

The staff was incredibly friendly and the owner was a great host. The vibe fit perfectly with the themed food of Soul with an outside courtyard next to a wine bar. The food far exceeded my expectations, the servings were generous, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy, the snapper fish was on point and fresh, and the smothered pork was my favorite and couldn't stop eating it after I was full since I was also picking at everyone else's plate (oink!). We are definitely coming back!
There wasn't very many people that I saw the unpleasant waitress said she was going to try cause she was all by herself. If she was so busy then why did she bring us water and utensils and a menu, but never came back to take our order after a 45 minute wait. I called the restaurant and the unprofessional waitress came out yelling at me. We got up and left. Bad reviews don't help the business. She needs to brush up on her customer service skills cause she has none. Very disappointing..
Don't go to this place, the ("Waitress") they only have ("1") is Very rude!!! And the only One waitress and one person cooking you cannot get any food at all , we barely got water and silverware. The waitress came out to us 3 times and said she would be right back to take our order. Finally we had to call her on the phone and ask her after being there ("45 minutes") and still not placing an order!!! she comes out arguing with us about she said she'd be right back. At that point we got up and left... Don't go there the place is a joke it's a hole in the wall and nothing else.
I got take out, so I can not really comment on the ambience, however the food is well seasoned. The proportion size of the meat is larger than the sides, which is different but good (I'm not complaining). The reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is the use of Styrofoam take out containers and the location of the restaurant is not wheelchair-accessible.
'22/1 1st time customer/review:It was a slow Tuesday after a holiday weekend. When seated by waitress, we were not informed that they were out of a handful of menu items. We found out when we went to place our order. They were out of too many items, so we did not stay for dining.Hoping for better luck when try again in future. The menu (see posted pic) has promise--turkey, cornmeal catfish, gumbo, ribs (all out today's visit).Note for mobility impaired: This unique, sit-down restaurant is located below street-level requiring decent via stairs.

I ordered the chops with greens and yams. Everything was good. The yams could use a bit more sugar. I was hoping to have some juice/syrup from them for my cornbread, but there was none at all.
