Ricks is great for a group of people with varied tastes, or if you just can't decide what kind of sweet thing you want. They've got all manner of cakes, pies, cookies and pastries, and a milkshake selection of death. I have found that, with such a huge variety, it can be hard to find one thing that is TRULY exceptional. It's all very delicious, but i don't know that I'd say any of the offerings are the "best ever". The fruit basket cake is definitely a delight, and the place will hit the spot for any sugar craving, but i haven't found that one go-to item that is at its absolute best here. It won't stop me from coming back, and I'll continue my diligent search.
What an awesome diner! My friend and I came here spontaneously on a Friday night. We got here around 8:30pm, just before the line got long! If you’re in the mood for a slice of cake or pie, you’ll definitely find one to suit your tastebuds. I’m an ice cream sundae gal and have to say their flavor menu is rather limited, but we were satisfied with our (huuge) hot fudge sundae. They also had tons of coffee options which I think is super cool. Definitely hit the spot. I’d come back!
It’s all good.great place for coffee and dessert with family and or friends.
I’m a local but have since moved out of the area-Rick’s left a bad taste in my mouth. Over more than a year ago, I tried to book them to do my dessert bar for my wedding. I went in person twice, finally got to schedule a consultation and paid my $50 deposit up front in cash. The owner advised me to follow up later as it gets closer to the date for the dessert section. I followed up twice in person when I was in town with the owner, then emailed him, called a couple of times and there was no response.I have the receipts as well. I waited for months and finally with no response back whether through call, email and or in person- I just lost my deposit. I had to find another baker to cater my wedding. I’m really disappointed and disheartened.I know they’re busy but that just hurts. I’ve been here since high school and never expected that poor treatment. Even paid for my cake testing too. I gave up in May of 2020. After waiting for a response a couple of months and nothing. Had to move on.Don’t get me wrong. They have great desserts and general portions but I learned my lesson. I will never ask them to cater again.
I had 2 pies, Cherry and Key Lime and they weren't anything spectacular or above what I would expect from a grocery store, especially the cherry filling. For the price of a slice, you are better off just doing that instead. The crust was okay but not flakey like and prefer. Nothing memorable.Nice location, great atmosphere.
We went around 3pm.Of course, there was a line. We were in it for 10 to 15 minutes. They basically had three glass enclosed racks of cakes, pies, eclairs, canolis, bars and ice cream to choose from. We ordered a slice of chocolate, peanut butter, cream pie, grasshopper, chocolate, mint cheesecake and a canoli. The Canoli was ok, but not that good. The other two items were very tasty. Most items we between $6 and $8 dollars. It was a fun thing to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
If you have a sweet tooth! This is the spot!! Close to other cool restaurants and shops!!
I had a great experience at Ricks Dessert Diner. Many delicious dessert you can hardly choose one and we can’t have all at same time.. Price and service are fair.Parking: Street metered parking, hardly to get parking spot due to prime location in downtown.Food: So many cake choices to pickup after so much inner struggle went with banana split and cannoli both are really YUMMY….I didn’t ordered cakes because all cakes are in XL (big) sizes & looks delicious (maybe more sweet than daily recommended intake consumption either in calorie or in sugars or in carbohydrates). If they have small size of cake pieces I would definitely ordered one or 2 cake pieces. Big Size pieces are bad for health.Due to big size of cake pieces, I gave 3 stars to this place if you are dessert lover and big loves big pieces then I would definitely recommend this place.Small patio and old school diner experience with black & white floor with red chairs is like 1960’s experience.Big Size Cake Pieces are good for family, not for individuals like me.
We usually visit after a performance at The B Street or at Capital Stage. It's open late at night... we don't arrive till about 11pm. It's always crowded. The line moves, sometimes very slowly, but the deserts are well worth the wait. Generally it seems to be a younger crowd than we are... retired seniors, but that doesn't bother us. Tea, coffee, desert and a good chin wag with friends after a show is just the ticket. And this place delivers.
I have been coming to Rick's for more than years. I stopped by a few days ago for a 39th wedding anniversary surprise dessert. Over the many years, I have enjoyed the Strawberry or Raspberry Diva Cakes and so much more. I have been gluten free for 8 years or so now. I was so happy to know when changing my lifestyle for my health that I didn't have to give up a favorite occasional indulgence. I am always happy to see at least 3 or 4 appropriate choices on a "gluten free" shelf behind the glass! The Caramel Truffle Torte was a new choice for me this visit, indulgent of course and worthy of repeat in the future. Thank you for consistent quality, service and choice above all other options in town and for keeping it midtown when a move became necessary from the old store front on K St.
