Great place to eat!I had the halibut as a main course and the blackberry cheesecake for dessert. Everything was so tasty and delicious and the service was wonderful. I'll definitely be coming back. This is an establishment where most patrons are dressed very nicely. We showed up on a whim and were not prepared for this but were treated just the same. I would suggest wearing nice clothes though.

Wonderful experience with attentive staff full of humor & character! Started in the bar: very attentive & professional. Local wines available as well as the wife's fav: old fashioned. Moved into the main dining area when our table was ready - right on time! Steak bites were to die for with both main courses ( pasta carbonara and gnocchi) deliciously delivered. Didn't try desserts - too full of goodness! Will definitely be back soon!

My wife and I dined at Mattone Ristorante on a Wednesday evening. We had been to the El Espanol (the former restaurant at this site) many times so were curious to see the changes. The building has been thoroughly renovated and looks very nice. Inside it looks brand new, and the acoustics have improved: the old place could get deafening. That could partially be explained by the clientele; perhaps the El Espanol crowd could get raucous (larger groups with families). I found the overall experience to be very good to excellent. The service was excellent. The ambiance was excellent. I enjoyed the beetroot salad, the lasagna, and especially the brick chicken. I liked how the food was prepared but I'm pretty easy going and don't usually quibble. I tried some of my wife's gnocchi order and found the little dumplings to be mouthwatering but I'm not crazy about shrimp which is why I didn't order that dish. We wanted to try the cheesecake but were too full so just had the gelato. I had a very nice time. The price was on the expensive side, but she treated.

The meals are exquisite and unique, but they lack presentation and the ingredients don't blend well. I had the Gnocchi for my entre. The sauce was interesting, definitely tasty. But the shrimp caused the smell to be pretty pungent. My salad (Gem Salad) was suggested as a replacement for a Ceasar, yet the ingredients were not similar at all. The pears (yeah, the fruit...) tasted great but the dressing looked like mucus and lightly coated every leaf of lettuce. And the presentation was awful. It looked like they literally took a head of lettuce and just plucked off a few leaves, then lathered them in this Grey dressing. I don't know... I didn't eat it and they still charged me for it. ??? I see the reviews and most either come here for the lasagna or they don't seem to know what italian food is. They just, "ask the waiter..." wonder if they did that for the review. ???

We sat in the bar area, the tables are to close together, we had to sqeeze into our seats. We waited 50 plus minutes for our meal, and it took 10 minutes, if that, to eat it. The Oxtail ravioli was the smallest and flattest ravioli I have ever had. There was barely any meat in them. The Rosemary tomato sauce was decent, but I couldn't taste the Rosemary. The server didn't even ask is how we liked our meal. That's saying somethings. ? I will not be returning.

Loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. The vibe here was nice & staff was extremely friendly. The lasagna was recommended by our waiter & apparently it’s a popular dish; really good! The menu is kind of difficult to help you decide on what to order but our waiter made great suggestions. The dessert (forgot the name) was recommended by waiter & although it looks heavy; it was actually light and tasted really good.

I sipped a perfectly-blended Boulevardier with some delicious carpaccio that flaked off of my fork. My entree was Shrimp Ravioli in Vodka Cream Sauce... melted in my mouth and even lighter than the name suggests. Lemon cheesecake with raspberry sauce and a glass of port for an excellent ending to a wonderful meal. Most importantly, spectacular service that will have my husband and i returning again soon.

We enjoyed our insalata Mattone, the calamari fitting and our pasta dish. We ordered and shared tiramisu and the almond & hazelnut cake and both were very delicious. I plan on returning in the near future.Cheers ?Buon Natale ☃️

Went here last night with my parents and younger sister. Everything was fantastic, great food, great service. They did Biba’s memory justice. Definitely coming back as soon as I can.

I love lasagna and Mattone has the best lasagna in all of Sacramento. Pro tip: sometimes its off the menu, but ask nicely and maybe they'll see if there's a beautiful brick of deliciousness hidden in the back.
