Don't be deceived by the line that's always formed there--people are like lemmings, follow the crowd. This is literally some of the worst ice cream I've ever eaten--sweet, sweet, SWEET--and FOAMY!!! So if you like sugar more than a rich, creamy, premium quality ice cream, this is the place for you. Not worth the price or the wait.
Hands down, the best ice cream EVER. Actually voted best in California in an article I read. I recommend the 50/50 for a tasty blend of ice cream and fruit slush. Start with a size small because small is pretty generous. Mango is just an awesome flavor for fruit slush!!! There's plenty of outside seating around the building. Parking is on the street and can be busy. Going during the summer? Expect long lines...unless you order through their website, then there's no wait, just go to the separate pickup line. Seriously, if you need the perfect dessert, this iconic place is it!

It’s always a treat to come here. The ice cream flavors for the most part are very good. My wife had pumpkin ice cream and it was delicious. We both had the peach ice cream last night and not so peachy. The 50/50 is the best!!
Gunther's Ice Cream has the best choices of different flavors in ice cream. Most of which are Gourmet ice cream such like the flavor Rum Raisin which I attached a photo. I will say that a few flavors are seasonal only. So timing has to be right for the perfect flavor that is awesome to discover. I was lucky enough to visit during the holidays which is the only time that they carry Rum Raisin which I love sooo much. I bought the last tub (pictured) that they had. Can't wait for the end of the year when it comes back.
An iconic Sacramento institution with a wide range of flavors on offer. Every visit to Gunther’s has been a treat. Their new online ordering system makes ordering easy—I order before I leave my house and pick it up when I get there. Saves waiting in line, especially in the summer when it’s super packed. I love it here and crave their ice cream multiple times every week.
I really really really enjoyed the Bing Cherry Sundae (comes with in house whipped cream, crushed almonds, and a maraschino cherry) with hot fudge
First time here. Great ice cream. Would give 5 stars but messed my order up on only 2 cups of ice cream
From Wisconsin to Washington, D.C. to all of the west coast, hands down the best ice cream. Seasonal favorites as well as everyday options aplenty. The customized ice cream cakes and milkshakes are to die for. An institution that lives up to its legacy and is a community pillar of Sacramento.

My personal favorites are their mango and guava fruit freeze, which I like to pair with their thai tea ice cream for a tropical treat. They have a wide selection so the options are endless!You can order both online (via their website) and in-person. But a fair warning, with how popular Gunther's is be prepared to wait in a line if you choose to order in-person. When you get to the store there's two lines clearly labeled for in-person ordering vs. online pick-up orders. Personally I find ordering online and then picking up in-person a lot easier, after all you don't need to wait for your frozen snack.If you're looking for a cooling treat on a hot summer day (or really any day) in Sacramento, then you definitely need to give Gunther's a try!
