I chose this place for my husband's birthday dinner - because he absolutely loves friend chicken with a soulful twist . My husband, my daughter and I were there for our very first time.... and when we left we were 100% satisfied! Upon our arrival, it was very busy and we were told the wait time would be approximately 45 minutes - but it ended up being only about 30 minutes - which was surprising due to the restaurant being so full (both inside & outside). Although it was crowded, the atmosphere was still relaxed and inviting. Many ethnicities and age groups dined and everyone seemed comfortable/relaxed. There was a variety of seating options - such as booths, tables, bar tables, and covered outdoor seating. The waitress came to help us within minutes of us being seated and she was very friendly and professional. I ordered a 3 piece chicken dinner with 2 sides (and was allowed to choose which peices I wanted). It didn't take long for our dinners to arrive, and when it did we were shocked at how large the portion sizes were - especially the fried chicken. I ended up having to place 2 pieces of my chicken in a take-out box to take home. The waitress continued to be attentive and polite and she gracefully handled all our needs. The other staff were also very friendly and seemed to be working hard. The workers kept the tables and dining areas clean ...and the bathrooms were clean as well. All of the food was delicious - just like our mothers/grandmothers used to make it! Obviously the restaurant is very well managed! I am very much looking forward to many returns! I visited twice because the food was tasty and the vibe was on point. There were a few times when my waitress was a but preoccupied, so I didn't see her for a bit. But, the rest of my experience was great. The first day I ordered the chicken, macaroni, greens, with the biscuit. The waitress was nice enough to let me sample all the available Kool-Aids. The second day I ordered the catfish with fritters, macaroni, and black eyed peas. My favorite side was the macaroni. Even though the meats had a little more breading than I prefer, they were still yummy, nice and hot. If ever in the area, make sure you try it. Oh yeah, I was excited to see the Uncle Nearest glasses! And loved the rooster with the fro pic.
I tried the oxtail from here. It was pull-apart tender and delicious. I also enjoyed all the sides we got. The Okra was so flavorful with the bacon. The Swiss chard was tender but not mushy. Potato salad was delicious. The fried chicken was also great and juicy. The biscuit that came with the dish was buttery and delicious, and I enjoyed it with the blueberry whipped butter. Service was nice and everything was delicious but food took a long time to come out. The waitress was sure to check up on us though so I appreciated that. One of the best places for soul food in the area! So good!
The restaurant looks nice, parking is tight and you will need to just find parking a block or two away from the restaurant, but it's a nice walk. We waited about an hour to be seated. When we got seated we were great probably another 10minutes by our server and she didn't come back for a while. She took our orders and never came back to really check on us. When our orders came, we were missing one child and one adult entree, but our server never checked in on us so we waited a while until we can let someone know that was missing. When we finally go our server she finally told us that the kids meal took a bit because the burger needed to be cooked well done and she was surprised that the adult meal never came out, so we just canceled that because we didn't want to wait another 20-30minutes. We were all basically done eating our entrees and she had already brought us Togo boxes, without asking, which we didn't need, but I was bummed the service took too long because she also didn't even ask if any of us wanted dessert, I really wanted to try the banana pudding. The only reason I gave this restaurant 2 stars was because their food was real good. We ordered the catfish nuggets as appetizers and those were fried to perfection. I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken, dark meat with Mac and cheese and collard greens, and let me tell you, it is the best I've tasted. My husband got the catfish , black eyed peas, and red beans and rice and he had already started eating before I could take a photo. He also got the kool-aid adult beverage which was delicious as well, I tried it haha. If you don't care about service, then by all means yes, this is great for soul food, but if service is big then you might want to skip out if you don't want to ruin your lunch/dinner.
First of all our waitress was wonderful the atmosphere was family style which I loved. Oh my goodness the food was so good best cooks ever and wonderful staff all the way around. But the best soul food I had outside of my home. Thanks again
Great food !! I love the Mac and cheese and red beans and rice .. Biscuits are delicious. Smothered chicken was the best.. very clean and server's are great!
It was incredibly delicious!! Their fried chicken was so good. I had only gone as an outing with friend but now I want to take my s/o and my family here when they visit!! I was rather surprised by the spicy colesaw but everything else was FANTASTIC ? I'm super picky about biscuits but ended up eating theirs!! Highly recommend! Their staff are incredibly friendly and will make sure you are enjoying your meal and having a good time ? Super delicious alcoholic drinks too! Pleasantly surprised ??
This was out first time here and felt welcomed right when we walked in! The food was AMAZING, service was great and got our food quick! We left then came back later for drinks! Highly recommend!!!
I had brunch here earlier today, and I will DEFINITELY be back! The potatoes were NOT good...but the music was excellent, the service was top-notch, and the Fried Chicken Omlette was AMAZING...and even though it didn't go with brunch, you know I had to have some of their red kool-aid, to remind me of my childhood!?
Everything was delicious: chicken and waffles, gumbo with shrimp added, ox tails, Mac & cheese, corn bread, collard greens.FLAVORFUL. BIG PORTIONS.Drink we're ??.Service was great.Resturant atmosphere is chill and comfortable.I definitely recommend this restaurant for some GREAT food. We will be back.
