Have had the Cuban, curry, jambalaya. All great choices. Nice little place in McKinley Park Area. Excellent wait staff. Nice drinks as well. Indoor/outdoor seating.
While you guys have great food. Your hours are HORRENDOUS. Terrible. You have probably missed out on maybe $300 in food this summer alone for being closed when we were in the mood for Celestine’s. You guys are only open like 30 minutes a day!! Change the hours. Who the hell stays closed for 3 days in a row.
This place is wonderful. Nuanced dishes. Savory and flavory. Perfect comfort food or for meeting up with an old friend. Why do I not go here more often?!Also, key lime pie is easily 10/10.
As a fan of gumbo I was excited to try this place out. At $26 a serving I was a bit reluctant but decided to try some for takeout anyways. The gumbo came with scallops instead of chicken, which technically is an upgrade so I wasn't too upset about that, but the flavor was very bland. Upon further inspection it seems they didn't even use andouille sausage and instead used some smoked kielbasa type. Gumbo didn't even have okra.
Phoebe and her husband are wonderful. The Cuban sandwich was the best I’ve had in Cali. I’m from Tampa and we’re very critical with cuban sandwich’s iykyk. The drinks were also great the margarita and the limeade very refreshing. Also loved the decor and atmosphere. Very good location great to go on a walk around the neighborhood after the meal
I like the vibe here. It is a very small and quaint restaurant. Tonight was particularly busy so it took a minute to get our order. The grio platter for the starter was pretty delicious! We ordered these Celestin's gumbo and the the Chicken, sausage and shrimp gumbo. The broth is decent overall. My favorite parts are the sausage and the big scallops.
First of all I was unable to get through on either of the numbers listed. One waitress was not enough to handle 20 seated patrons, the cash register, and to-go orders, so service was poor. We had to wait like 20 mins for more water. Two out of six orders was wrong, my meal was served before my salad, the limeaid glass was only 2/3 full, and it is very uncomfortable seating, there just isnt enough room they need to remove the table in the middle so people can get to the other seats. My rice was cold and flavorless. I've never had Grio before maybe its supposed to be served hard and cold. I think they should tell you when you order they're out of something, instead of telling you over and over its coming, and after eveybody else is finished eating to be told they're out.We had an unpleasant dining experience, and I will never go back. Id rather go to McDonalds. At least their the food is hot
Adored my experience here. The grio was flavorful and juicy. The gumbo was authentic. Chicken wasn't dry, but soft and flavorful. The flavor is on point and lots of French bread to share. Such a unique eatery and highly reccomended. I got a glass of beer for only $3.50 too.
We were in Sacramento for an art show and had been disappointed in the restaurants we had found until we stumbled across Celestine’s. FANTASTIC!! There is something for everyone here. They have options to customize their gumbos but their menu items as they prepare them are awesome. Just spicy enough and amazing flavors. Their wine list is also very reasonably priced.
This small but mighty restaurant has equal seating in and out featuring soulful cajun fare.We had dinner inside on a Friday night without reservations and were lucky to get seated immediately! They were full within ten minutes of arrival. Several take out customers came and went. Nice atmosphere, clean and carefully spaced seating. Casual. The staff was friendly and attentive. Service was good. Now about the food...I've had zero experience with cajun food. (Popeye's doesn't count.) My date helped me order. Not overpriced but not cheap. He had Jambalaya (+ a side of black beans) and I had scallops with coconut lime sauce ($30!). Both were served with red beans & rice and marinated cucumbers & tomatoes. We had fried plantain as an appetizer. The server even sweetened the tea with honey for me.IT WAS ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!So. Worth. Every. Dime.Yes the cukes were tired & tasted like the walk in, but not important...it happens to garnishes. Yes the deuce table could barely hold all our plates. But they cleared frequently. Yes they could up the beverage selections for non alcohol but way to go on service! To quote the former governor...I'll be back!?
