I am eating a $12.75 French dip sandwich at the upper crust on Main Street in riverside. I am extremely grateful for the blessing of the sandwich without a doubt. Thank you God. Unfortunately this turned out to be a very disturbing uncomfortable experience. After the lovely woman and her daughter purchase me the sandwich and left I proceeded to sit at a table inside in the air conditioning like the other customers. It was told that I could not sit inside because they're going to mop the floor. They still haven't mopped the floor and it was about half an hour ago. None of the other customers were asked to move to a table outside. The next element was just downright tacky. As the girl at the counter rang up my sandwich she continued telling me how lucky I am and how grateful I should be that someone bought me a sandwich over and over again. I give thanks all day everyday to people to God. What place did she have to continue to say in front of the woman while she's paying for the sandwich how lucky and grateful I should be that she's doing it. It was really none of her business. It was her job to ring up the sandwich. So as requested I go sit outside at a table in the heat. The French dip arrives it is served on two thin pieces of cheap white bread as opposed to a French roll or at least sourdough at minimum again this sandwich cost $12.75 served with two tablespoons of pre-made pre-packaged macaroni salad from a carton available from Smart & final probably. To add insult to injury the au jus sauce had already turned and soured and smelled putrid. It is not that I'm not grateful for what the woman and her daughter did for me. I was hungry and they brought me lunch. It was very sweet. being made to feel even more disenfranchised than I already do for being homeless was not right at all. I don't stink I took a bath last night. I'm not on drugs I'm clean and sober. I was nothing but polite inside the sandwich shop. Even as I was being poorly treated I was polite to them. I went back into the establishment after finishing the first half of my sandwich and I explained to them how uncomfortable The experience made me feel and exactly why. I informed the owner and her staff that I would probably be posting this on Facebook as well as Yelp. All of a sudden the door opens back up they turn the clothes sign back to open and me invite me to come in and sit in the air conditioning like the other customers did. Then at that point and at that point only I was offered a refill on my diet coke through the most falsely polite forced smile I may have ever seen. Having been born and raised inLos Angeles that's a big statement. Hahaha I know in my nature I've been prone to exaggerate or embellish or elaborate stories from time to time but that's purely for entertainment value. This is a real life situation. Yes they apologize. But this is something that should have never happened in the first place. If you have ever felt disenfranchised insulted belittled or marginalized in a similar situation please call the upper crust sandwich shop at the number provided and let them know how this is not right and it is unacceptable ., But especially in this day and age. The owner is a very nice woman who cares very much about her business. It was packed when I went, but the employees we’re working hard to get orders out and they came out fast! Don’t miss out on the pastrami sandwich, it was the best I’ve ever had by far! Definitely will be coming back ??
Lunch time came and I needed a good lunch so The Upper Crust Sandwich Shop came to thought. The best service I've couldn't of asked for anything better. My sandwich and side orders were mouth watering good. Giving my scale from 1-10, 10 being above and beyond. Then that's what Id rate them. Must be why they got a A in the window. Definitely I'd come back.
Incredible place for a sandwich! Homemade French rolls and some bomb pastrami! The tomato bisque warmed my heart and my stomach! Will be hitting up again!
Stopped here randomly as a midway point during a long car ride for lunch and was very impressed - the food was delicious but the customer service is what really made the place special. The man who served us couldn’t have been nicer or more friendly!
Small deli/ cafe with seating inside or out. Pleasant staff and reasonable prices for CA. convenient location is walkable from downtown activities and hotels.
The pastrami sandwich I had here was one of the best I have ever had! If you are ever in Riverside, you need to come here! They have mastered the art of making a delicious sandwich! Lastly, the owner of this establishment was very friendly and hospitable! 10/10!
Wow this is hands down the best sandwich shop in a 50 mile radius, the chicken salad sandwich was beyond fantastic, the chili was superb and the chicken poblano soup was to die for. The only thing that I enjoyed more than the food was the service, the owner is absolutely one of a kind, so warm and friendly, definitely will be back.
Family sandwich shop with good portions and friendly staff. Solid lunch spot walking distance from the convention center. Try the daily special sandwich or soup for a fun surprise.
Visited and had dinner here last night with friends.the meal was very good. The owner was very kind and has wonderful genuine hospitality skills. She is very proud of her business, and rightfully so.We ate outside and enjoyed the gentlemen playing music. Just a real nice, telaxing atmosphere as part of our wonderful evening seeing the lights around The Mission Inn.We will be back for sure.
