Always busy. We literally drive 20 miles out of our way to go here. Don't let them cheap you just because of COVID. Ask for the side of grilled onions and jalapeño. Salsa is off the chain. They have good food, but all food is not equal. This is the place for tacos. I'm a burrito guy, but here I do the al pastor (marinated pork) tacos. Wifey does the lengua (tongue) with an asada. Tacos are a delicate balance of meat, toppings, salsa, n tortilla. They do it right!!
Food is ok. The communication & service are downright horrible.Tldr - Avoid if you can't speak Spanish1. Extremely difficult to order if you do not speak Spanish as the person taking order does not understand English.2. Next to impossible to place orders for pickup for the same reason.3. They don't update if they are open/ closed on food delivery platforms and just hang up on you as they can't understand you.4. They ignore most special requests on orders placed through Doordash.5. Very rude to customers & service is one of the absolute worst I have seen in the area.6. They got one of my orders wrong.
This is my first time trying this place. The lengua and the cabeza were incredible. I’m always looking for good tacos de lengua. I had three lengua, three cabeza and three al pastor. The cebolla y cilantro were fresh. I’m not a huge fan of salsa roja, but this one was killer and flavorful. The al pastor was my least favorite of the three, but it’s okay. It was still good, but I’ve had better (I don't mean this offensively; just a personal preference).
This was very busy in the wee hours of the morning. A long line at the walk-up window and inside. Outside eating and inside with ample space. There's no salsa bar and the salsa cost per container.I got a meat quesadilla with asado. It was thick and chopped in a decent bit. It was very favorable. Plus, you can watch your food being cooked.
Solid late night option. Carnitas tacos were delicious!
Deliciously good Everytime! Al Pastor and chorizo is literally the only way to go.
The food is good and definitely authentic Mexican food. There is a number of El Gruellense locations in Redwood City and if I remember correctly this is one of the original ones if not actually the very first. The later the location went up for additional locations, I didn’t like the food as much. I heard that even though the name is the same, it is run by different people. It’s not your usual chain in that the earlier locations are going to taste different than the locations to go up later.
Tacos are street style and super yummy! Tried the nachos today with carnitas and I was not disappointed!
Tell my spouse and I we like to eat Mexican food and we wanted something light so we ended up actually ordering chicken flautas. At first when I saw the receipt after ordering I thought it's a little pricey $27 for two large drinks and for flautas. So when you get the flautas they dress them up really deliciously with walk amole cream tomatoes lettuce it's actually definitely worth it and the only thing is that the chicken is a little burnt. But delicious. The one thing that I would actually definitely recommend is for you to be very assertive the kind of the same time when asking for salsa and you have to verbally ask for salsa because they won't give it to you unless you ask. So do not ever ever assume because you will not get salsa unless you speak up. We sat outside at a table that was decently clean.that was after the fact that we had actually ordered to go. We sat outside and enjoyed then threw away our own garbage and make sure we didn't leave a mess. Since covid has been going on it felt safer to be outdoors.
Been coming to this ace for the last 30 years and still the same.Tacos and sopez the bestAnd great service.
