My first time dining here and it was pretty lackluster. My mother recommended this place because she used to serve here a long time ago, and Iâm a restaurant worker as well so I decided to check it out. To begin, the host didnât acknowledge any of the notes on our reservation (outdoor seating, birthday celebration). We had to ask to sit outside even though that is what we reserved. The noise level was extraordinary, but we were next to an 18-top and a banquet (?). Surprising for a Wednesday. Our backwaiter/another server (?) was timely and helpful with our drink and food orders, but our actual server was lacking. She kept disappearing so it took forever for us after each step (getting dessert menus, dropping the check, retrieving the check..). In total we waited at least 30 minutes in between just for service (not counting waits for food). Thankfully we didnât have anywhere to go after. She was friendly but seemed overwhelmed; the service was just too lacking. The food itself was decent, love the mistral bread but mostly cause of nostalgia. The actual steak and frites were ok, NY very tough but didnât have very high expectations. Affogato was good. The saving grace was the canal, was beautiful during the day and sunset. The interior and patio design was also pretty. Wonât come back because of service but was a good shot to try.
The spicy seafood chowder is probably the best soup dish I've had in 20 years.
