Made a reservation for 5 on a Saturday night. It was decently packed, but we were seated very quickly. We ordered through the QR code which made everything super simple (you also paid through online menu). We ordered a bunch of dishes, but the standout was the wagyu+garlic rice, chicken karage, the eel over rice, and of course the hamachi. Everything tasted so good and it made it easy to share plates with a lot of people. Everyone got to try a taste of everything. It was all pretty pricey, but within a comfortable range for the quality of food that you are getting. And the atmosphere and service are amazing as well. Will definitely come back.
The food was we ordered was good, but slightly below our expectations considering the price. The shrimp bowl was too salty to really taste the flavor of the shrimp. The crispy chicken came with a decent amount, but it took really long waiting, and karaage this large was not easy to bite in my opinion; also it was pretty plain inside cuz of the size made the flavor hard to go in.Last complaint was the waiting area— the used skillets were just left close to the waiting area, and the smell wasn’t really pleasant.
Izakaya Bites ?After a delicious tonkatsu in Oahu, I was delighted to find a new chef special featuring special pork cutlet at KemuriWhile the favorites are always well represented (oxtail udon, garlic wagyu fried rice), I always love returning to Kemuri to see what the specials are for the season (always order the ceviche!)The outdoor seating was packed on a lovely winter night and we thoroughly enjoyed all our dishes? Smoked Pork Katsu $24 / Red Oxtail Udon (Spicy Garlic) / Dassai 45 Junmai Daiginjo $12 / Toki Whisky Highball $12?Kemuri Japanese Barú (Redwood City, CA)
Smokey delicious goodness - enough said! Okay, I also love the oxtail udon and the spicy chicken wings are unusual and unusually tasty. Good ambiance too and there is always something fun to try :)
I really loved the eel here! A really nice place with traditional Japanese cuisine as well as some dishes that have a modern twist.
Actually excellent food, appetizer came very late but it’s fresh grilled and so good so who cares. A bit pricey but totally worth the value.
Unagi don without unagi sauce, very dry. Agedashi tofu basically fried tofu with soy sauce. Hello? What makes it agedashi? And tempura bokchoy? I understand situation is hard for restaurants but are they trying to scam their customers?
Had tried Kemuri on a friend's recommendation, and was very pleased with the recommendation. The time we went I did not encounter any Japanese staff, but the flavor and texture of most of what we ordered was fairly authentic and very good. I was also pleasantly surprised that ordering a glass of sake here was generous, instead of getting a single glass, the pour was into almost a half size tokkuri that naturally overflowed to the ochoko. Very classy touch I thought. The udon was definitely an affordable highlight, and the ox tail broth was rich and very filling. Personally I really liked the saba, which they seared at the table and it was quite excellent along with the fried kibinago. All the smoked and grilled items we tried were definitely worthy of the restaurant name. Would definitely recommend trying if you are in the area.
Katsu chicken and onigiri we're my favorite. Staff are awesome. Would eat outside again.
SLOW, thought they worked at dmv for a sec
