Amazing experience. Took my girlfriend here on a date and we both really enjoyed the sushi and noodles. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere, lots of seating, and very kind staff.
This is not the same restaurant it used to be. It used to be an elegant restaurant, where the crew wore slacks and a white collar shirt. Although the price has increased, the staff wears shorts and t-shirts, and the food quality has diminished; the amount of fish on the sushi is significantly lesser.
Despite this place being an American owned sushi place, I will have to say that it was a amazing experience. (FYI I critiquing my food with high expectations so just note that I just have high standard) The server and other runners took care of us and were attentive while we were eating. The server also provided us with recommendations on the rolls. The short grain rice that was used was well-cooked and seasoned which complimented the fish. The bluefin samurai roll had a slight char and freshness which made it 8.5/10. For the Kyoto Kryptonite roll, I have got to say that if you like the crispy tuna, then this is the roll to order because it pretty much tastes like it. 7.5/10. Crispy rice was pretty good, but I just prefer it to have less rice so that I have more of the crunch than the mush from the rice. 6/10 The sushi was fresh and good with the rice. 9/10Overall, everything was good and will return to try different rolls.
Pretty tasty, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Good variety of menu items; everything we had was super delicious and definitely worth every penny. Japonica also has a pretty good happy hour before 6pm (check if on the weekend too).
Really disappointed with the level of service we received during our first visit to the Japonica location in Redondo Beach. After an amazing first time in Hermosa at their sister restaurant we had high hopes to have an equally great dining experience this evening. Unfortunately, it left something to be desired. While we were ordering our drinks I made a request for a sweeter Sake recommendation and the waiter responded with a snide, “Well we have lots of sakes” and a roll of the eyes. It was rude and disrespectful. Then, after placing our appetizer we waited 15 minutes for our server to return before finally grabbing the attention of a nearby waitress to place an order. When we received it, the food was sub par to say the least. The shrimp udon had a mushy texture, & the white lightning (seared) was cold. When attempting to send back the dish the servers explained to us that they didn’t have permission to take the plate, only a manager could. The manager never addressed our poor experience and simply sent the server back to retrieve the dish. Awful customer service. Sparknotes are that we will not be returning to this particular location in the future. Save yourself some time and your hard earned money and try literally anywhere else.
Very good. Most of the items were right on point. Seared salmon with truffle and the wagyu were my faves. We had 2 carpaccio dishes and while they were very good, I thought they still could have used more spice. Maybe shaved garlic or jalapeño? They needed something.The “bar” is lacking. I thought it would be a traditional style sushi bar but it was just a place where they were getting to go orders ready. Not a good atmosphere at the bar. Food is a 10, atmosphere an 8, price is 7.
This was our first time here. Outstanding! Staff was very professional and courteous! We got the White Lightning and Kyoto Kryptonite rolls. Very tasty, and fresh! Melt in your mouth fresh. We will definitely be back. Great job Japonica!
Great sushi, fantastic service, unique dishes, and nice yet relaxed atmosphere- perfect for the beach. They have some very unique rolls using fresh ingredients at reasonable prices. Staff is very friendly. This place does get busy though, but it is worth waiting or calling ahead.
Paid $80.00 for three sushi rolls and gyoza. Definitely got over or double charged because the rolls were only $15-$16 each. Wish they provided and actual receipt. Make sure you look at the receipt while the waiter is talking to you as your paying..
