One of my favorite wineries. The wine is outstanding! And sitting on the deck overlooking the vineyard is a healing balm. So grateful to have this winery down the road from us!
The experience is casual, the views are great, the price is right, but the wines are mediocre. (Didn't try the beers)The biggest problem is that the winemaking style here seems to result in wines that are rather nondescript... the typical flavors you'd expect from those varietals don't tend to shine through. So it's more like they have two flavors here: white (which I wasn't a fan of their white varietals), or red (which taste ok, but range in body from light to medium... not a single hearty, full-bodied wine here.) The syrah tasted almost just like the cabernet sauvignon (and neither one was as dark and rich as they usually are)... the malbec, too, was a medium-bodied affair, but we found it the most interesting of the lot, with a sort of cedar-like flavor. But the prices are affordable and the view of the vineyards is quite nice.
If I could give zero stars for my experience at this winery I would. I went wine tasting yesterday at Gold Hill and was appalled by the customer service by one of the women there pouring for the tastings. I didn’t get her name but she had short grey hair. I have been wine tasting for over 25 years and I have never been treated so rudely. I am a light drinker and wished to share a tasting with my sister. She rudely declared that even though I would share a tasting with my sister I would still have to pay the $15 fee. Huh? That made no sense. I told her in over 25 years of visiting wineries and routinely sharing tastings with my husband that no one has ever told me I would still have to pay a regular fee for sharing with my husband. She rudely shot back, “Then join the winery club if you don’t like it.” I mean, seriously? I didn’t want to make a scene but I wanted to talk to a manager. It was ridiculous. She can’t force people not to share a tasting with someone. It made no sense. The rest of the time that I was there with my group she was outwardly rude and short with me. She is lucky my husband wasn’t there because she would’ve gotten an earful from him. I don’t know who she was but I can’t imagine the owner wanting their pourers treating people like that. Their wine is not that good to put up with that, and after the way she treated me I will never join their wine club nor will I ever go back. That woman, whoever she was, should be either properly trained in hospitality or fired. It’s outrageous. You can’t force people not to share a tasting. Some people are lighter drinkers and don’t want a full tasting so they share, which I do all the time. I have never been chided for doing that nor told I had to pay a full fee. So ridiculous. I will never go back. There are way better tasting rooms in the Placerville area that treat people with kindness. Do not go to this place. I won’t return. Lady, if you’re reading this, you have no clue about the wine tasting industry. I hope they fire you.
Always happy to find a new brewery! Tried all the beers and liked them all. Absolutely beautiful location and view. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. And the pints are $6 which these days is pretty decent. Thanks for that!
