Somm's Kitchen is an absolute must do. My wife and I have been traveling to Paso for years and have always wanted to make it here. Finally did to celebrate her birthday and it completely exceeded expectations. We've done several food and wine pairing dinners before but this was hands down the most unique and the most impressive. Ian is incredibly talented and knowledgeable and went out of his way to make us (and all of the guests) feel right at home - like you were at the coolest dinner party of all time. The food is outstanding - incredibly high-quality ingredients cooked perfectly with Ian's unique interpretations of each dish (his tomato soup was life changing). On top of that you get to sample a wide variety of wines and champagnes paired with each dish while Ian talks you through each of them. Whether you're a wine fanatic or just looking for a one-of-a-kind dinner, I couldn't recommend Somm's Kitchen highly enough. We'll be timing our trips to Paso around this place for years to come!
Calling this place a restaurant is an injustice, it is an experience and will be different every time you come In the best way. Ian is Charming, friendly, casual and very welcoming. He tries to get to know each group/guest at his 14 seat counter. He cooks each dish himself And serves them to you. He created a comparative wine experience showcasing wines side by side to observe the differences and he gives digestible amounts of information about each wine. He doesn’t hold back offering local and international wines. He even treated us to a 2007 Cristal. The dishes were filling and unique. He puts a lot of passion And effort into each dish, many of them he prepared over several days. He is very generous with his knowledge and offers recommendations beyond your visit to his restaurant. We will be sure to try to get a seat at his table any time we visit Paso.
Hands down the most amazing and unique wine/food pairing tasting course ever. We managed to get squeezed in at the last minute since a different party cancelled.I'm not particularly well versed in wines and get overwhelmed by the jargon that is often attached to wines -- I appreciated that Ian was very practical when talking about everything he was serving.Overall, would most definitely go back. Hands down.
Every night is something special
Whatever Ian prepares
We had dinner at Somm's Kitchen for the first time. We were excited to try it because of the great things people were saying about it. I have to say we enjoyed ourselves very much. The other patrons were fun and into the food and wine as much as we were. The food was great the service was excellent, and Ian was very informative and welcoming. We will definitely be back to experience more wonderful wines and food.
Ian was an amazing host in what you feel like his dining room. The wine was great and plentiful. The food was simple, but outstanding. A lot of his dishes take days/weeks to prepare. His 17 day cherries were the best ive ever had.Great Experience!
We received a text on Friday morning that Somm's had last minute cancelations, and we were on the waitlist for that evening. It was a truly exceptional food and beverage experience with such a passionate chef and beverage expert. I was amazed at the obvious interest and TIME that Ian puts into the preparation of each of the 10 food courses, and the selection of paired local and international wines..... it is definitely a rare experience to be one of the 7 couples around the curved counter, listening to Ian. We certainly hope to be able to return in the future.
Amazing experience! I wish we had heard of this place sooner. The quality of food and pairings are unmatched for the area. Owner is a food scientist and master chef... We left full and satisfied. I will recommend this place to everyone I know! We make it a point to come here every visit to Paso Robles. Such an amazing Gem in downtown Paso Robles!
Simply amazing! Chef Ian's dishes paired with wine, rum, and cognac was superb. We're already trying to find time to come back for another experience.
