First time in Paso and Calcareous has been great. Lamb chop lollipops are delicious. Our server has exceeded all expectations.
Wine tasting and lunch here for 2 today. Beautiful location perched on a hill on Peachy Canyon Road. About 20 minutes from town. Views for miles. Shared a small cheese / meat / fruit / nut board was ample, very tasty and paired well with the wines we tried. The rest of the menu also looked excellent and was reasonably priced. Receptionist and waiter were both sweet, fun, accommodating, knowledgeable and did not rush or oversell. Could have stayed all day. Thanks for a great afternoon.
Do not go there and waste your precious time at Paso Robles. The service is horrible and the staff doesn't know what they're doing. When we got there we wanted a table with a view, obviously, there were at least 5 tables available and the hostess didn't seat us on those and seated us at a table on the way back on the side without any views. Then we couldn't get a hold on a waiter so we went inside to grab one, then the waiter did manage to bring our food but no utensils?!, then we tried to pay but couldn't get a hold on a waiter again, even though we tried to flag one 4 times (ignored us deliberately) which turned out to be the assistant manager. Then when we were leaving we saw there were 11 available tables at the front with a view which we realized the hostess lied to us about having reservations to all and resisted to seat us to one. It isn't worth the trip, your time and money.
My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now and the winery, staff, and experience are always good and continue to improve. The addition of a great lunch menu just took them over the top in my opinion. The views you get once over you're up enjoying your tasting are great and if you catch the sunset, you're in for a nice backdrop. Come for the wine and leave with a great experience. An experience that will leave you yearning for a return trip, not just to Paso, but to Calcareous.
Was eventually greeted by a younger gentleman who acted as if our coming in for a tasting was a imposition. This was on a Wednesday with very few guests. Was continuously ignored by staff inside. We were seated though felt reluctantly and was uncomfortable. The wine guide was awesome though, and very knowledgeable. Wine was good, though not the best we had in Paso. The view was amazing, but maybe that’s what you pay for. The experience definitely could have been better unfortunately.
The 2020 Grenache is an excellent sipping evening wine. The views at the winery are amazing. We loving buying and drink the wines at home but adore taking friends out to winery as well
My fiance and I visited here in February, made an appointment ahead of time and were so excited to visit and taste as we were recommended by wine club members to visit and have had their wines before. Upon arrival, we were not greeted by anyone and waited at the hostess stand to be checked in for over 10 mins. When we got seated they gave us menus and did not return. We attempted multiple times to flag them down and we watched them serve all the other tables around us. We sat for ~20 mins without anyone coming to our table before we ultimately left. Maybe they overbook their tasting room, but you'd think if you are appointment only that you would give the best service to those who actually made plans ahead of time to visit. The tasting room is beautiful, but the service is terrible. Very disappointed in the overall experience and will not be recommending this tasting room to anyone. If you can drink their wines without visiting, I'd highly recommend that.
We are members here and love visiting for delightful wine, great food and fun setting. Today our server was Nate Lopez. He is not a good ambassador for Calcareous. He insinuated his dislike for California wines and the food served here. He was off putting and had a bad vibe. I would ask that he not be our server next time.
Totally fabulous experience at this vineyard. The wine was excellent, the service superb, and the food delicious. We LOVED it!!!
