This review is about the Allegretto Hotel in Paso Robles, but I certainly hope that Douglas Ayres, the proprietor, reads this! We recently spent two days (way too short) in the typical July heat, celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary at the Allegretto Resort. My wife, Tatiana, and I have traveled a great deal including 5 star hotels in Hanoi, etc., so we can and do compare! Mr. Ayres and his team have created a very special property, and while we missed seeing him, although we were told he was there, it was obvious that "the owner's touch" was everywhere. Every single staff member was beyond special, and everyone truly cared - none more than Concierge Ms. Bobbie Martinez (Mr. Ayres and Toni, Head Concierge, take note!) You should all be so proud: Fabulous breakfasts, amazing massages (thanks Judy and staff), great winery suggestions and dinner reservations, (Bobbie, you know that was you!), front desk (John, et al), who really cared and ran looking when we lost things, which were found, and/or were sent to us... hey, we're in our 70's! We did not have time to take the artistic tours, but will next time. It seems Mr. Ayres did a modern day W. Randolph Hearst "tour abroad" for the many treasures in and outside the hotel. So give yourself a treat and allow more than two nights! Howard and Tatiana from Los Angeles.
Wonderful! Our group had a terrific experience. Group dinner outdoors was great! Love the fire pits. Rooms are comfortable and the pool and jacuzzi were refreshing. The icing on the cake was the Spa. The message was incredible. Allegretto is definitely on the return to list!
Loved our stay! Unfortunately, it was only for one night, but we will be back. Lovely property and staff were very nice and welcoming. Only recommendation would be have less cabanas and more loungers available at the pool. We found the pool area packed with people and none were available for the two of us to relax. There were lots of cabanas that were empty.
Top flight romantic architecture and vineyard site with extraordinary art and romantic touches (jazz in the courtyard with water fountains babbling). And, in an age of disappointing service, we found the staff here bright, engaging, and attentive. From the doorman Mr. Z to the super helpful concierge to the first rate food at the hotel restaurant and bar to pool loungers towel restocking (?), this place is exceptional!
We had a wonderful 2 nights stay at Allegretto during the 4th of July weekend. The room had a small terrace and was spotless. We enjoyed the art and sculpture collections throughout the resort, the fascinating architecture, gardens, pool, abbey, and of course the tasting room. This resort is family and pet friendly, we had our baby (9month old) and our puppy as well.We also had our breakfasts and one dinner at Cello and loved the food!Areas of improvement: we hoped for a more friendly front staff during check-in similarly to Cello’s reception. We had an unpleasant wait at the bar during our first night and hoped for a better service. This didn’t impact our overall positive experience.
Do not stay here if you have a dog, maybe even a child too. I found this hotel through “Bring Fido” I subsequently booked it through Bring Fido as well. As soon as I checked in I was made to feel like a criminal because I had my dog in tow. The front desk agent said disapprovingly, you didn’t book a dog friendly room. Ummm I booked the room through “Bring Fido” hello!!! So then I was promptly upcharged and extra $175!!! This is unacceptable in my opinion. Why would I book my room through again “Bring Fido” unless I was planning to bring my dog. We were booked into a stinky room littered with dog cover up perfume. Now we have a 15 lb, very friendly and well behaved dog. He was already well received by many of the hotel guests, just not the unfriendly staff. They initially put us in a room that was right next to a wedding, with a toddler and dog. Not smart! Had to move rooms. The restaurant was disappointing too, food was bland and underwhelming. The service to start was terrible. We have a toddler and was not waited on for at least 15-20 minutes. Had to flag down a waiter.Oh and also I woke up in the middle of the night with a terrible rash, bed bugs or fleas? My dog does not have flees. Could barely sleep with the strong odor in the hotel room. Will never come back here.
Everything you’d expect from a top notch resort with treasures to discover throughout the property. You will not only relax and enjoy your stay. You might just leave feeling a renewed sense of optimism for life! The grounds, food, wine, and staff were all the best! I love this resort and will definitely return.
This was our second stay at the beautiful Allegretto Vineyard Resort in Paso Robles. Once again everything was a 10+. The hotel, the entire staff, and our room couldn’t have been better. The restaurant, service and dinner menu choices were outstanding. The quality and presentation based on what we ordered and enjoyed was a true culinary experience. Our server, Lavie, couldn’t have been more gracious, and professional in every in every sense of the word. Her knowledge of her menu offerings to its complete wine list was exceptional. Thank you, Allegretto, for creating such an amazing place to come and enjoy life at its best. We had the most marvelous two day stay. Grazie Mille
I can’t say enough about this spectacular resort! Our family stayed in the 1 bdrm king suite with terrazza for two nights and it was an absolute dream. A plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of vintage red wine was waiting for us when we arrived, setting the tone for our entire stay. We had dinner at Cello our first evening, and I recommend eating outside and timing your reservation to the sunset for an incredible experience. Securing a Cabana for the day (8am to 10pm) brings the pool experience to a new level. I can’t say enough about how relaxing it was to have everything that we needed in the most comfortable and beautiful surroundings. At night the pool glows a beautiful blue colour. We loved walking around the grounds looking at all of the artwork and immersing ourselves in the small meditative touches throughout the property. Service was a 10 out of 10 -and in some cases 11 -beginning with our valet service. Whether it was drinking coffee in the morning while overlooking the courtyard, or visiting a nearby winery (Uber to Daou estates for a breathtaking view of Paso Robles!), or just lounging on the property, Allegretto has perfected the art of travel escape. Thank you Carly Paul for everything. See pics attached.
I'd say I liked this place, but I wasn't really impressed by it. Is it the nicest hotel in Paso Robles? Yes, but that's not saying much because Paso Robles doesn't have a ton of great places to stay. Is it worth the money? Not to me, but if you're rich enough to not care about the price, then this is the place for you. Did this place make me feel like I was in Europe instead of California? Maybe for a few minutes. I think the best part of this hotel is the courtyard. They had a little concert in the courtyard the day I arrived. People were dancing and drinking wine outside, that was the most European feeling part to me. They have a lot of places to sit, even if you're not staying in a room that faces the courtyard. And the tasting room outside area is in the courtyard as well. As for the decor outside of the courtyard, I wasn't really feeling it. Like others have said it just a bunch of random art pieces with no real theme. There's a decent amount of walking trails around, and I guess the chapel was ok-ish. The location is pretty good. It's far enough away from the homeless area that you don't see them (that area is near the Adelaide Inn / Best Western Plus / Holiday Inn). It's a quick drive to most wineries. There's not really anything within walking distance, but I assume you're driving if you're coming here. We ate breakfast one day at the restaurant and it wasn't so great. The portions were small, not anything special, and not worth the price. The room was fine. We had the cheapest room type and there was no view to speak of at all (besides some dumpsters) but the room itself was pretty nice. The best thing about it was probably the super-size shower. So overall, it was pretty good. We stayed midweek though so we didn't pay peak rates, which I wouldn't pay to stay at this place. La Bellaserra is a better value and nice enough, but if you really want to splurge then this is the place for you!
