It’s got lovely interiors and a great vibe to set the Indian mood. We loved the ambiance and thought the menu sounded fascinating. The prices were high and the food wasn’t great nor was the quantity any justice to the price. But in enjoyed the evening trying new things on their menu and had a great night! So if your willing to spend a bomb and not worry too much about the food, give this place a try:)
Very enjoyable experience at Rooh in Palo Alto. The food was incredible, the cocktails creative, and the staff attentive. Particularly enjoyed the chicken tika bomba - incredible!
If you like overly salted, room-temperature food, served within minutes of ordering, saffron rice with no hint of saffron, tasteless Indian nan, then Rooh is for you. Trader Joes has MUCH better nan & and frozen Indian food. I cannot recommend one dish. Even their mint & cilantro chutney is horrible, the worst I've ever had. We had room temperature over-salted lamb chops, duck Shikampuri kebab, which was particularly bad, butter chicken, stuffed eggplant, and awful chickpeas curry. Both Amber and Sakoon are better choices.
Let me tell you I am fan of this restaurant. I have been to San Francisco branch many a times before, this branch at palo alto also surpassed passed my expectations as well when it comes to food.I am rating only 4 stars for few things i think should have been better here considering the fine dinning Michelin starer experience they were. Restaurant was too noisy. The glass they served water into was little stinky, it was there on the table before we arrived and its a open layout so not sure if it was used, which is gross and they should have been careful. A little understaffed there was delay in getting drinks to the table.I can see servers super busy serving the tables to their best capacity. This place is right by the street with limited off street parking. There is parking around the block though check the spots on google maps before you go. Also its wheel chair accessible.I will always recommend reserve before you head there, i have had to return few times since they apparently were not able to accommodate walk-ins.
Our table for six on a Monday evening was in an isolated area in the back of the restaurant between a couple of collapsing doors. The arrangement made a poor ambiance for our celebratory occasion.Coming to the food, we tried quiet a few things on the menu and here are my ratings based on taste and preparation.5/5 - Dahi Puri - the yogurt mousse is made to perfection providing a rich taste and consistent crunch. Coincidentally our favorite in the SF restaurant.3/5 - Prawn Ghee Roast - didn’t look appealing and fell short on the spice expectations.5/5 - Masala Jackfruit Cutlet - a masterful creation by the chef that I highly recommend. Perfectly minced and flavorful in the inside and fried to perfection.3/5 - Chicken Malai Tikka - cooked to perfection, a good one for kids as it’s not spicy.3/5 - Tandoori Chicken Bomba - wasn’t very consistent and disintegrated easily. Some of them were over fried in our order.5/5 - Lamb Keema Hyperabadi - another must try dish amongst the appetizers. Perfectly balanced spices that give a mouth melting taste. Superb!!5/5 - Chicken Nargisi Kofta - a wonderful fusion similar to the famous Bengali dish - “deem er devil”. Our favorite in the large plates.3/5 - Stuffed Eggplant - didn’t meet our expectations, we preferred others in the menu over this.4/5 - Butter Chicken - a typical preparation, flavorful and tasty.Overall we really enjoyed the food, few dishes didn’t meet our expectations but will come back for those that did. Hope the seating can be better next time.
Four of us were starving after our long walks exploring the Stanford University Campus, and were glad that we had made reservations in order to try this place out, because of the hype associated with it. They were ready and waiting for us when we arrived, and quickly ushered us to a nice table in the air-conditioned indoors. They are known for their Cocktails, so we ordered two Khub Bhalo, one Anar Paloma and one Amrud Mojito to start out, and pair with the Sweet Potato Chaat and the Paneer Chili Roll. For the Main Course, we ordered one Jackfruit Cutlet, one Paneer Pinwheel, one Tandoori Cauliflower and the Stuffed Eggplant to be supplemented with three Garlic Naans and two Saffron Rice Bowls – all to be served family style. Finally, for Dessert, we got the Mango Ras Malai and the Saffron and Pistaccio Ice Cream. The Menu was creative. They paid attention to the smallest detail in plating and presenting the items, and added the correct level of spices. All the dishes ignited our taste buds, and we were able to enjoy and savor everything to the very end of our meal. The décor was upscale and trendy, the Chandeliers were unique, and the ambiance was classy. Our server, Julia C was a delight. She was pleasant, professional and courteous, and frequently checked in on us to make sure that we were not waiting too long in between the courses. The meal was pricey, yet, we have no hesitation in highly recommending the restaurant to other patrons. We will absolutely return on our next visit to this area.
Wow.This take on modern Indian cuisine was outstanding.Fresh dishes, unique preparations, traditional and new flavors. When we finished, the plates were completely clean. So delicious. Very impressive that so much flavor was delivered without any meat at all. Outstandingly delicious and a strong recommendation for any vegetarians looking for a satisfying meal full of flavor.100% would go back.Only drawback is price. It’s in Palo Alto, so to be expected, but worth it if you’re looking for a special meal.
Oh my god. I regret for trying this restaurant after these many years of living in Palo Alto. Everything was fantastic here. Survive was great. Food was absolutely perfect. The lamb chops were super tender and flavorful, and the butter chicken was super buttery and yummy. Absolutely will be on my list of regular places to go back to. So, I highly recommend the Rooh for Indian cuisine in Palo Alto, CA.
I had been wanting to come here for years, but I was sorely disappointed. While I am a lover of Indian food, there is something off about some of the dishes here. Eve thing I had was overly salty but devoid or spices, which is rare for Indian food. I didn’t feel that the dishes were “special” enough to command their price.I will say though, that the interior here is truly something else! So cool! The last thing that left a bad taste in my mouth, no pun intended, was that when you pay the bill the lowest percentage option was something like 24%… lowest should be max 15% truly ridiculous considering staff was very curt!Would definitely skip this place and go to Ettan down the street instead.
good food good service, Bar Tender was the best part of the evening, He was super personable and knew his craft well. Again, food was good but not super good, had to pin point but I guess I was expecting more. Naan was not good at all, don't bother with this. Califlower was very nice and the Butter Chicken as well. Short Rib, sauce was tasty but the rib was a little tough. Monk fish was good done well, delicate and flavourful. Eggplant, not so good.Broadway Massala in Redwood City gives ypuba more authentic and flavourful experience.
