I really liked this hotel, they have everything you need, staff is super friendly! The scenery of the mountains in the backdrop is absolutely stunning. The pool is really nice, has many different areas to lounge and a bar.
Upon arrival, the mobile key code to open my door didn’t work. I called customer service and waited several minutes until I could enter my room. Through tour the rest of the stay, the mobile key code continues to only work about 25% of the time. Additionally, I found the bed sheets dirty with what I presumed to be new stains and when I called to have them changed, no one ever came to do so. It was disgusting and I’ve never experienced anything like it while staying at a hotel.
Easy check in through their app, but still had friendly service. The folks who work at the property are nice and accommodating. My only warning is that this is a party hotel, not really a place to have a quiet retreat since the restaurant and pool can get loud (but music and noises are not blasting until the “am”). The rooms are modern, clean, and spacious. Affordable too.
This was my first Sonder experience. I’ve now stayed at two Sonder properties. Sonder is known for offering a hotel/Airbnb hybrid model. Some properties like this one are hotels, others are apartments. You get fewer amenities (no room cleaning, no front desk, etc). In return prices are cheaper. The hotel property is older, but it’s been remodeled. Without a front desk and how the property is laid out, it’s very difficult to find your room. They could do a better job of labeling buildings and adding more signs. Parking is a nightmare. There is NOT enough parking for the restaurant, staff, and guests. Unfortunately, the restaurant and hotel staff get priority, along with valet, so guests are left on their own. It’s the “basic economy” of parking. The rooms are modern. My room had a patio which had a high concrete enclosure which was odd. The rooms also only feature mobile phone access. I didn’t mind this, but I can see this being an issue for older guests or if you come with a family. The hotel features two pools and a hot tub. There is a restaurant but I found it to be overpriced. I had a few issues. I requested a week prior via the “concierge chat” for extra coffee and condiments in the room. I was staying a week and working from home, so I expected to drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day. When I arrived there were 2 coffee pods and the coffee machine was dirty (full of water and used pod). I told the front desk and they brought more coffee and cream (thanks). They said the dirty machine was an oversight. I also read about complimentary water bottles in the room. I received none. Perhaps the hotel needs a check list and supervisor for housekeeping. I then found out the coffee maker only worked in one outlet. The power supplied by the other outlets wasn’t enough. The outlets worked to charge a phone, just not for the coffee maker. Once I figured this out (6 outlets later) I was good. I don’t mind not having room service, but if a guest is staying 7 nights, give them a couple extra towels and room supplies. The staff at the front said “just go to the supply closet and it will have everything you need”. Lol the supply closet only had toilet paper, sugar, and toothbrushes. Nothing I actually needed.
Was very happy to find this place. Affordable and quite nice given the price. I like the app based check in and locks (even though the lock was a bit buggy, I still liked it). Pool area is awesome. Here is where the problem came in. I booked for 6 nights. My plans changed and I shortened my reservation by one night. I made this change three days before that night and thought I would be within the three day cancellation policy, even the employee at the front desk “thought” it would be fine but didn’t know for sure. Well in the end I still got charged that night. I chatted with a lovely person and tried to get support but she had no power. The thing that was so annoying is I got multiple surveys asking how it all was and wanting to follow up. I explained this situation multiple times and no one has ever reached out to me. Yes the wording does say cancel three days before your stay, but I also think most reasonable people would think you could still make that change if three days before that night. If I had booked each night separately I’d have been able to cancel. It’s a shame this happened because I like the concept and the place, but this has left me with a bad taste in how they will treat guests.
Clean and modern motel. Definitely has the Palm Springs vibe! Pool and bar are highlights of the hotel. The room is spacious, clean, and up-to-date. No question that this is a great value! If you are looking for a luxury resort experience, this is not it. But the staff is courteous, helpful and very pleasant. It is a great find and very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!
I'm going to start with my experience prior to arrival. I was reviewing the check in process and wanted to check to see what I had paid for my reservation. I noticed that the current pricing would amount to amount $100 less a night than what I paid. Naturally, I called to get a price adjustment because I'm used to price matching. I booked directly on the Sonder website. After being on hold on and off for 30mins. I was informed that they would not honor a price match because they change their prices daily. The hotel itself is INCREDIBLY OVERPRICED. My husband and I don't mind paying what we paid for this room, but have a certain level of expectation for what you'd get. This is below bare bones for a room that should cost less than $200/night. We paid close to $500/night. Our room code didn't work upon check-in. We had to pay $25 to check in early and once we eventually got in the room it was dirty. There were hairs on the toilet seat (which was left up!!), the floors were sticky and the room smelled funky. We were moved to a new room with a whole new slew of issues. All the while at this point, I was on the apps live chat, called customer service and eventually was connected with a person who worked for Sonder on the property. The poor staff is kind but clearly over worked and so stressed out. They wanted to help me the best they could but all of the systems have "bugs" and "new policies" keep them from adequately making guests happy. Once in the new "upgraded room", the shower head fell off the wall while I was in the shower, the drain didn't drain the water in the shower, the walls had paint chips all over them and headboard was dirty with greasy fingerprints. GROSS!!! The curtains were stained and the floors were sticky still. The pictures of this place are great online, don't trust that they'll be that way upon arrival. The code never worked for our room so we got a backup code that we couldn't reference in the app. We had a piece of paper with the backup code written on it. The pool was the only acceptable part of the stay. There was adequate amounts of shade and the pool bar/service was good. That night our friends who were staying on the property had their power go out! It was 105 that day and my friend is pregnant!! Totally unacceptable. Our AC unit was extremely loud and the vents basically only pushed the air up to the ceiling. Everything about this place felt like a bait and switch. It seems nice to have a contactless arrival, app to manage your trip and nice looking accommodations. None of the things Sonder claims to be were real. Don't waste your money here.
I had a wonderful time at the Sonder. The pools and drinks were great! It was very quiet and peaceful. I felt super safe being alone. Staff was super nice as well. Highly recommend going to Gigi’s restaurant as well next to it.
Sonder is really stylish, the tone is great and everything just fits neatly together. Very minimal design and a great feel. Lively and busy at the weekends, quiet and relaxed mid-week. Great location.
It's nice enough and the bartenders are great but the prices are incredibly high. $9 for a can of beer!! They could really be doing a robust service but are losing lots of opportunities and it's so easy to see why. Lots of things need fixing in rooms and around hotel and they don't meet expectations for the price you're paying. Shocking really. From construction noise to no hot water 1 day, dirty floors, sticky counter tops, have to pay for maid service, no dresser for your clothes (so inconvenient). It could be a really nice place but it's just not there unfortunately.
