Sorry, I hate to have to be honest, but I felt like I was dooped by all these 5 STAR reviews, food was terrible, expensive and they forgot an ingredient.Bad. Don't get tricked by all these fake reviews. It'd be one thing if it was cheap and bad, but expensive and bad, no good. The dough was incredibly overworked which makes the pizza base too tough. They really really really skimped on my ingredients and completely forgot one of the three I ordered. The service was polite and efficient and I felt welcomed.
Spinning Lies, is more appropriate a name. Do you like Pizza? Then save yourself the trouble and go someplace else. I ordered to go, and this is my story.Starting with the wings, they were burned enough I had to do a double take to make sure they weren't actually the chocolate cake. the bitterness of the burned sugars in the glaze was overwhelming and probably increased my cancer risk. We're off to a bad start, but surely it'll get better right? The Sausage Pizza itself looked odd, but okay at surface value. The thin slices of flat cheesy landscape were marked by distinct oversized sausage boulders that stood a whole inch above the rest of the surface. It's definitely not traditional, but hey, it looked decent. Why not? Pulling a slice, 3 things were immediately apparent. 1 it was not cut fully. A bit of ripping would be required. 2 the thin outer crust was HARD. 3 the gluten structure was pretty well developed. Once the slice was ripped free, i lifted it with a bit of a fold. The dough under most of the pizza was soft and folded easily, as a NY style slice, that gets a pass. One bite into the sausage boulder and I was hit with a massive wave of fennel seed aroma. It was a lot of flavor, possibly too much as it overshadowed the other aromatics, but immediately after i felt a strange sensation. Was this not a delicious juicy sausage? Why does it feel so mealy? I finished the bite and then tore another sausage in half, and ate it alone. It then became apparent that the sausage was as dry as a brand new sponge. That takes a few points off. Nonetheless I continued eating towards the end of the slice, noting that without the sausage, the pizza itself tasted pretty mediocre, owing mostly to a weak sauce. Then I reached the crust.Maybe the baker is moonlighting as a Materials Science Researcher because this crust is an engineering marvel. I have never bit into a crust that was simultaneously so light, yet that hard. Watch out for your teeth, this crust could turn a weeknight dinner into a thousand dollar orthodontics procedure whereby your teeth need to get realigned. Formula 1 should take notice - forget carbon fiber, overbaked pizza crusts are strong, light, and so much cheaper. This is the only pizza I've ever thrown into the trash before getting full. There was enough for dinner, but it simply wasn't worth the risk, nor the calories. The last thing to comment on is the chocolate cake. You can tell they phoned it in. It was pretty generic, and while that's usually a bad thing, in this rare instance, it's the best thing they served.I can't understand how this place is rated above 4. Maybe they bought reviews? The distribution seems oddly skewed. Either way, I won't be back any time soon. I could get better pizza from the freezer section.
It's just real good pizza. The crust is always perfect plus the balance of toppings is never off. In my opinion, this is the best pizza you can get in Oakland and they never have a bad day. The patio area is really cozy and they always have solid beers. The wings are solid too. The staff is always warm and welcoming too. This is the margherita.
We went to Spinning Dough because of all the five star reviews for a pepperoni pizza to take home. It was paper thin, the crust was leathery, chewy, and had to pulled on to take the bite. Time was not a factor because it only took five minutes to get home. Just plain lousy, about like a Domino's or Little Caesar's. Can't figure out where the five stars come from. We each ate a piece and a half and threw the rest away
Good pizza but they don’t do dine-in. Unfortunately, the pizza lost its pizzazz bringing it home. Wish google reviews had not mentioned they are open for dine-in.
I don't post much, but this one deserves it!! Spinning Dough has taken pizza to the next level. Never thought I'd say this, but OMG! Never thought pizza could taste this yummy! If you haven't tried Spinning Dough pizza, you're truly missing out!

The mushroom pizza!!! Dear lord I love it. I also get the house salad with a warm crusted goat cheese. Soooooo tasty! What a great treat and I can walk there and pick it up.
Jeff, you are a pizza god!My partner and I happened to come across Spinning Dough during our staycation. Jeff was the only one working there since times/labor shortage has been rough during the pandemic. Even then, he was warm, kind, and you could tell all the food was made with love.We ordered a Sopressata for two. Holy moly it was so delicious. Definitely the kind of place where you need get your pie hot and eat it in the car right away. A little salty from the sopressata, sweet from the honey drizzle, and savory with the tomato sauce and green onions. The crust was *chefs kiss* perfectly thin, chewy and crunchy.Definitely coming back. I want to try all the pie toppings Jeff has come up with! Trust me, you won’t regret visiting. Remember to give Jeff some love - it’s hard for the restaurant industry these days!
I’ve been coming here since Spinning Dough opened. Absolute must try in your pizza tour.
