Shalom Cafe has has the best chicken and steak sandwich for a very reasonable price. If you spend just $12 you can have the meal you choose. I recommend anyone and especially the neighbors to take advantage of the affordable delicious food.
I like Shalom's. I like the breakfast croissant or bagel and the Shalom Special Sandwich is pretty good too. I also usually grab donuts when I'm here.
I bought the Today special which was oxtails and was it special. The oxtails came with greens and rice and a delicious gravy that for the life of me I cannot place this flavor. The meat was tender and falling off of the bone and the greens were seasoned perfectly not too salty and not mushy. The bbq chicken and ribs looked so good I really couldn't decide. There were other people in the diner and they all looked pleased with their meal. They offer coffee and espressos with a variety of donuts that are fresh! The kitchen is spotless, the floors are clean, and they use gloves while preparing your food. Parking is limited so you may need to park on a side street. They are located directly on the corners of Shattuck and 55th street.
One of the worse breakfast ive eaten in a while
Tried the food here while on a weekend trip to Oakland. A friend of mine highly recommended their breakfast so we went to try more items. We ordered alot of food. We had the Ribs, oxtails, greens, rice, Shahan ful and Pancakes with bacon. Every thing was just ok. The food lacked alot of flavor. Two of us agreed that it was good for the moment but we wouldnt go back and didn't even bother to finish our food. Everything was very bland and for me it just wasn't worth the calories. The bread with the Shahan ful was really good though.The portions were large so you will get alot of food for your money but I would have easily paid more for better seasoned food.
Wow great donuts! These are BETTER than KrispyCremes. Glad I found this spot.

I DIDN'T KNOW... I stopped by while in the area for lunch. I saw greens, ribs, and turkey wings that were look delicious and most importantly, they were ready ?. Turns out affordable and veryveryvery delicious. Going back for greens and wings for sure. GREAT FAMILY RESTAURANT IN THE TOWN
