Almost 5 stars overall - def 5 stars for cool/clean dining space (love the helmets on the backwall), and waitress Janelle was awesome - friendly and attentive. We've been meaning to try Roji after seeing it open weeks ago, but after watching the Ramen Heads documentary of top ramen shops in Japan (on Netflix), we caved into our craving for ramen and went 3 days ago!We both had the pork rib ramen, with tonkotsu and spicy miso broth. The pork rib was big and melt in your mouth tender, although the flavor was muted and could have had more punch/marinated w/ stronger spices (or maybe finish it in the broiler for a smoky char before serving?).We both LOVE our broth choices. I tasted the tonkotsu and it had a rich mildly sweet creamy taste. My spicy miso was also rich and full flavor while also being sufficiently spicy (many places label dishes 'spicy' but it's more like barely spicy - be careful slurping this soup, if the chili oil hits the back of your throat, you will get a nice kick of a burn for a few mins). For both of us, the broth/soup is 5 stars! My buddy liked the ramen just fine, but for me, it was a little bit on the soft side - I like my pasta al dente, and also like my various noodles slightly on the firm side (whether it be Vietnamese pho noodles, pad Thai noodles, or even soba noodles). Please note, if you're looking for shoyu ramen (broth/soup is soy sauce based, clear brownish soup), they don't serve it at Roji, but def come anyways, you'll likely enjoy 1 of the other 3 soup choices (the 3rd is a vegy broth - great for vegetarians).WISH LIST - please add options that include shrimp/prawns (would be so good with the spicy miso ramen), or fish cake, and fried tofu (instead of fresh tofu for the vegy ramen choice - would much prefer fried tofu there for contrast to the soft noodles, instead of more softness from the soft tofu). Keep up the great job, glad you're in the neighborhood!
I was so excited for a ramen place in piedmont, but the vegan ramen was so disappointing. I think they can do better
I have high confidence in restaurants with short menus. Obviously, ramen is the star here. There are 4 options that you can customize. I ordered the chicken leg ramen in spicy miso broth and my husband had the chashu ramen in tonkotsu broth. We were both extremely happy with our choices. The chicken just fell of the bone and melted in my mouth. The spicy miso broth was rich, salty, and had just the right amount of kick. I'm absolutely going to be back.
The pork ribs are so well done. Tenderest ribs I've ever had. I like the spicy miso broth, not really spicy, but it elevates the flavor. Very distinctive style in terms of atmosphere. Services are outstanding. Pleasant experience overall. Will return again for those tender ribs.
Great veggie ramen !
Do you ever have irrational menu item that has to be good in order for you to come back to a place to eat? For example, if a diner doesn't have a good BLT, I'm prob not going to come back. My partner has one for ramen places and it's the soft boiled egg. Not only did this place pass the soft boiled egg test, it gave a full egg!The first great thing about this place is the portions. The soup to noodle ratio is perfect. And it felt like I kept discovering more meat as I kept eating. The second great thing about this place is the taste! I got the pork rib ramen and the meat was so tender and flavorful. It was a terrific meal that I'll definitely be coming back to. What a great addition to Piedmont Ave! Welcome to the neighborhood!
so happy that Roji Ramen opened on piedmont. i had the spicy miso broth and chashu and it was very flavorful! and i love any ramen that has bok choy on the menu. definitely making this my regular ramen spot
We loved this spot! Delicious and in a convenient location.
So good! We got the pork rib ramen with spicy miso broth and the chashu ramen with tonkotsu broth. Very attentive service and fun, interesting decor. Highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back!
Amazing food with quick service. The ramen broth was rich/smooth and noodles had great mouthfeel. Highly recommend.
