AMAZING ramen, super inventive menu, really peaceful atmosphere... I absolutely love this place. These three stars are for two separately bad experiences with the hosts at the front. As a host (I was one for years), you have two main jobs: welcome people with a smile, and make sure everyone get seated properly. The last two times, my group was welcomed with hostility, and on the second occasion, was actually turned away despite having a reservation (my boyfriend had forgotten he had placed it under my name, not his—simple mistake!). To remedy the situation, you'd think the host would share some names attached to the reservations in order to help us find ours... but instead, she told us she "had no way to help us." Typically I'd read a review this like and think, they were probably being really b****y, that's why she was unhelpful— but we were genuinely on our best behavior. Ramen Shop management, please do a better job of training/hiring your hosts! First impressions are so, so important.
Very tasty ramen and nice ambiance. I had the spicy tantanren and also tried the Tonkatsu shoyu and both were delicious though I prefer the spicy. They also have some cool cocktails and A Perfect Day was really good. Only downside is a bit pricey. 1 bowl of ramen and a drink was $40 so definitely not a place I would frequent very often. Still worth trying if you're craving a tasty bowl of ramen in the area.
Excellent ramen- we got to sit at the counter to watch the chefs! Quite an operation. Fast turnover, great food. I think the staff could lighten up a bit in terms of greetings/pleasantries- I know it is a crowded spot, but my question is, have you ever been to an in n out during lunch rush? Those employees are on it - they even try to bus your table with a big fat smile. It’s ridiculous and you have to tell them “no! I’ve got it! Thank you”…so if they can do it, any restaurant here can too. If I was to open a restaurant, I would definitely poach in n out employees. Just makes the experience better. It’s never too busy to chat with folks! What I’m saying is, just be polite and kind to your guests, don’t treat them with contempt! Anyways, awesome food -
This place does stellar ramen, there's some confused reviewers on here who either don't know what ramen should taste like or got a random off dish. I've been here a dozen times or more and never had a bowl that wasn't at least a 4/5. They are pricey but not that much more than at other comparable places. You should add an extra shoyu egg. They're just that perfectly satisfying umami flavor.
Ramen soup bases are good and filled with tons of different umami flavors. The soft boiled egg is on the very salty side. But other sides are pretty unique to this place.Things I am pretty upset about was it took a little longer (15+ min) to get my ramen. The slide of pork is pretty thin
FoodOverpriced for salty, uninspiring ramen. Vegetables that don’t make sense in ramen. Broccoli? Jerusalem artichoke? Mustard greens? Broth just tastes like diluted salty soy sauce. One piece of fatty chashu which was supposedly duck but we’re pretty sure was actually pork. Egg was nothing special. Noodles were pretty good at least. My wife is Japanese and we shop at farmers markets almost exclusively. We love Chez Panisse. This should be a hit, but after many tries it is sadly a miss.ServiceAfter a few years of avoidance after a few earlier disappointments, we decide to try again on Valentine’s Day. Our 4 year never fails to eat ramen, they had grab and go cold ramen in paper containers, and we were nearby. Sounded like the perfect night. The duck ramen sounded great but unclear on the website - is it hot? Cold? Paper? Plastic? Ready to go or custom order? Dunno. So we call around 5:45 ready to order. No one picks up but they say to text. Ok. So I text. 10-15 min later they reply. At this point we had already given up on ordering in advance or having our question answered so we just go over there. Our toddler was already tired at 4pm so we knew she needed food and bed. Now it’s already 6, and 530 was ideal dinner time. We were hoping to at least have grab and go by 6 with food on table by 630. Lol.I manage to connect to a server who is slammed. It’s Valentine’s Day after all. Can we just sit at one of the many tables? No all booked. Ok is the duck ramen hot or cold? Hot. Ok fine whatever let’s just order gotta get food. Then the website won’t let me order. Another 10–5 min. Someone comes to take my order manually. Doesn’t mention it’s 45 min to get food. Which apparently it is. Over an hour after trying to order, finally got food. It’s all in plastic. Hot noodle broth. In plastic. Leaching toxins into our food. Another container with noodles in plastic. That’s why we never get noodle soup to go. And here we are again.90 min after trying to order I’m finally home. Our 4 year old has long since melted down and going wild way overdue for bed. My wife tells me to eat alone so she can put her down to sleep. Fortunately after some time on the bed they are rejuvenated just long enough to have some kind of dinner together but the food wasn’t even worth it.Some Valentine’s Day. $75 for this food and experience? I expect it will be several more years before we forget this experience and are willing to try again. Or not. We just had exponentially better ramen last week for 20% lower cost. So I’m gonna go with not.
Possibly the best vegetarian ramen I've ever had! Their Meyer lemon ramen is so good, the noodles were so fresh and the presentation was beautiful. The whole restaurant has the coolest interior, the design is so immersive. Delicious cocktails too!!
The food is sadly overly composed with confusing & jarring combination of flavors. I get that they’re trying to use local, fresh, organic ingredients - but nothing here tastes remotely Japanese or Japanese-inspired. These are honestly ramen by YT people, for YT people. Expect your bills to be $25-30 per person, food to be very salty, and service to be a pinch pretentious
This is by far the most expensive bowl of fusion ramen I ever had. The soup tasted like instant noddle with bizarre ingredients that really didn’t belong. Everything was overly seasoned. Service was slow due to covid but overall just too overpriced for what it is.
I'm glad I gave Ramen Shop another chance...takeout ramen is not as good as live, hot ramen. Their menu changes maybe every 2 months and it looks v.seasonal. This time, meyer lemon was in everything. Ramen was solid, v.flavorful soup---still would rank Marufuku in SF #1. I also loved that they have ample outdoor seating with heat lamps.
