Visited bay area and decided to hit up a soon tofu place. Had to street park and it seemed like a busy street.Menu: Four Banchan, good kimchi. Both spicy seafood tofu soup and biji soup were good. I loved their fully crisped rice too; they have an option to pour hot tea over it, so definitely try that out.
I was craving something a little warm and stumbled upon this place so we walked in not knowing what to expect. Man, was it a good decision. We got a variety of foods – wings, tofu stew, and a stone pot rice bowl, and I would recommend all of them. The side dishes were also really good. The white rice that came with the tofu stew came in a sizzling stone pot which was also cool.Pricing-wise, it's pretty standard for bay area (close to $30pp after tax and tip for dinner), but this is super super worth it imo.I also really appreciated the very attentive staff here. They were very quick to notice when I needed something and were super fast to bring whatever I needed (takeaway boxes, water, the bill, etc).I will definitely be back to try more of the menu!
Overall good experience, good service. Their barley tea was not very good:(I got the seafood soft tofu soup extra spicy and it was barely spicy:( it gives you a good amount of seafood and the flavor is really good though!! But for the price (something like 19.99) not much value
Often understaffed (tip them well!) but food is always excellent. Short rib beef soup is amazing and the chicken wings are fabulous. Don’t miss the kimchi or seafood pancakes. They don’t travel super well (reheat on cast iron to crisp up) but are so delicious.Obvi their tofu soup is also amazing; super flavorful and comforting. When dining in, save room for the crispy rice scraped from the side of the stone bowls!
Everyone can make soft tofu soup but not everyone can make it just right. This place makes it just right. I make the soup myself at home and I can match some Korean restaurants but not this one. A good Korean soft tofu soup has a complex taste. It has so many layers. The ratio for the amount of soup and tofu has to be perfect. The meat can’t steal the show. Here, even the containers are right. They will burn your fingers long after you have finished eating. If it is easier to find parking, I would definitely come more often.
Everything!
We had a soft tofu soup and a trad bap. The bap (beef) came first. It was bland, contained very little meat, and could safely be judged as insipid. The tofu soup came late, at which point we were secretly hoping the waiter had forgotten it. But it was ok. Also had a beer. Shared all between 2 of us, total was 60 and change. I’d rather go down the street to Bowled any day!
Very tasty. Love the sides and the extra spicy option!
kimchi pancake & galbi tangGlad: pancake batter is tasty and not too oily. The meat from galbi tang is tender and delicious. Soup comes with dolsot rice, and that rocks. The sesame seaweed/sprout kimchi was good.Sad: there was no tang/fermentation in the kimchi whatsoever. Just crunchy with no discernable zip--I kept eating it out of puzzlement but bagged the pancake to salvage later. Napa cabbage in soup was overcooked--to the point where it's kinda slimy and sticks to your utensils. There were 3 pieces of meat for a $25 soup, the broth doesn't taste umami--overall this seems like a bad deal but maybe price is due to inflation or I'm a noob at Korean soups? And finally, really disappointing selection of 4 banchan. Seaweed/sprout aside--the kimchi: no tang, potato: only sweet, scrambled egg: tasteless
Oh my gosh the bimbimbap dolstoy was pretty awesome.... smaller portions but they give you a soup.... if you ask for it extra spicy you better be ready
