What an interesting spot. I'm giving 4 stars since I just can't get to the price to quality ratio (not bad, but definitely not great for the cost), but you'd be hard pressed to find a quirkier spot for a date night.Ambiance: Eclectic mix of music from house, chill hop, lofi, even some flute action that came out of nowhere. Art and art-adjacent (e.g. is particle board with a stick figure painted on it really art?) things adorn the wall. Plenty of seating in a very open-air dining area connected to a bar alley.Food: Small plates and medium plates ranging from new American to southern to Asian influence to other assorted cuisine. The menu directly reflects the ambiance in that it has no idea what it really is trying to be, but it just works. The bone marrow was -chef's kiss- as was the cornbread that came with the fried chicken. Everything else was so-so to good.Verdict: Nope, this won't get you going like Sally faking an O in front of Harry in that scene at the diner, though you will walk out thinking you've had far worse meals in your life.
The food is very good! We had 2 orders of chicken wings, 1 of garlic prawns and 1 veggie burger with fries. The burger looked beautiful. My son said his fries were one of the best he's had. All the food came fast and tasted delicious. The place was a little bit too warm though and the music way too loud. Great music but way too loud. Yes I am 53 but my younger kids, 21, 27 and 31 were the first ones to complain. We actually almost left but my son was too hungry to go look for another place. If the music was just a little less loud and there was AC it would have been a fun place to hang out a little longer than we sis and have more food and drinks.
It has been a while since I have had the pleasure of dining here, and the food is still delsh and vibe is still cool. The play list gives a nightclub vibe and I love it!We dined on the blackened catfish, CQB burger, none dairy-free mac n cheese, and brussle sprouts. For dessert, we had the Pineapple upside-down cake. I recommend all of these.
I love coming here with my friends and family. It reminds me of the tapas tradition in Spain. The menu is thoughtfully curated so you have enough options but not too many.I love the vibe in this place too. It feel like a club with a live DJ.
Went with friends for an early dinner. The place was loud making it hard to talk for us over 50 folk. But, the atmosphere was otherwise fairly pleasant. We were given a carafe of water pretty quickly, but the waiter took a little while to get to us and when he did, he made a non-committal gesture at us without saying anything. So, we ordered our entrees and drinks. A short time later, 2 of the 3 entrees came out. It was only 5-10 minutes for the third item, but by then, my food had cooled off quite a bit. However, the soft shell crab was still pretty good and the fries were just fine. We finished eating and the very efficient bus boy cleared our plates. A little while later the waiter came back looked at us and said "do you want menus?" I think he was asking about dessert or more drinks, not sure, but he definitely looked very disappointed when we said no.
For us still excellent after all these years. They also had a DJ for the music ambiance. I recommend the blackened catfish if you are into seafood.
Been a customer since 2011! My go to order is the CBQ burger - it’s really filling and has a lot of fantastic ingredients in it. The other item we ordered is the catfish with was really good as well. The ambiance is cool vibes ++ dope art ++ stylish people all gathered up in a warehouse. Really recommend for birthday dinners / renting out the space for events
Great date night spot. Service is always on point. The DJ is lit. Food is amazing
Wow. This was a pleasant surprise. Mua is one of Oakland’s best kept secrets/underrated dining experiences. Yes, experience because it isn’t just about the food here. The ambiance, energy, art, decor, service everything is bar none IMO.Music: old school hiphop & R&B 5⭐️Ambiance: artistic industrial 5⭐️Drinks: nice variety, could be stronger 4⭐️Food: nice selection of meat options, not a ton for vegetarians. I got the catfish which was very good. Portions are a little small for the priceThe pineapple upside down cake was AMAZING 4 ⭐️Service: friendly, attentive, 4.5⭐️Overall: 4.5Will definitely be back soon
So delicious. One of my favorite places to eat. Parking is a little tricky in the city but it's worth it. The website said reservations only available online but when I showed up they were taking them over the phone so not sure what happened there... The squash Mac and cheese is the creamiest best version of any Mac Ive ever had. Including Homeroom. And the wings with fish sauce?! Are like some Vietnamese decadence. One of the tastiest dishes I've ever had. Spot on goodness. The drinks were good. Our server was... Far less than friendly and didn't ever check on our food or drinks. Including water. So that was kind of a bummer... The food was delicious. Definitely willing to try again...
