Walked up to Maya Halal Taqueria and I started thinking I had made a mistake heading here. It is just a take out window (or two). I am so glad I went. Got three super tacos, two shredded chicken and one steak. Maybe the best tacos I have had. They might look small, but they are stuffed with meat, guacamole, sour crème, etc. I was happy and full when I was done. Got the chips and the spicy habanero sauce, homemade for both and excellent. The guy who took my order was very friendly and helpful, took less then 10 minutes to get food. I will go back again without doubt!
It’s a sketchy neighborhood. The food is great. The owner is great but the Latin cashier never gives you proper change back. I was fed up and confronted him and he started to act like, he didn’t understand what I was saying in front of the owner. So if you are paying cash, just pay attention. Because he keeps the change for himself. For me, it’s not about the money but the ethics.
Overrated. Location is ratty. Ordering was complicated. The guy made it so annoying to order. The food is so overrated. I ordered a burrito , taco and nachos. They all taste the same and lacks flavor. Not to mention I found a eyebrow hair on my burrito (disgusting). I’ll try the Birria taco on Friday and see if my review changes.
Make sure to check out our youtube channel (Halal Digest) for full review of Maya Halal Taqueria where we review their Super Taco(best tacos we have had), Lady Boss Burrito, Regular Nachos and Horchata! and its HFSAA certified(which is why they dont have the flamin hot chips even though its still written on the menu)
Yes, please! I tried the shrimp burrito bowl and it was DELICIOUS! So full of flavor and the perfect amount of ingredients: very fresh. Even the complimentary salsa was great. I’m looking forward to going back. (Would’ve posted a picture, but the bowl is now empty!)
The burritos and the friendly service.
Maya Halal Taqueria is a solid spot for burritos in downtown Oakland. While it can be busy during the lunch hour, it just goes to show how much people enjoy the food! My go-to order is the super burrito with chicken, which comes with salsa (mild or spicy!!) and chips if desired. While they do not serve pork, their other interesting menu options more than make up for it (hellooooooo Cheeto burrito?!). For me, one burrito can serve as one meal when I’m ravenous (perhaps after an intense workout!) or two small meals over a busy workday. Grab your food and stroll over to Lake Merritt for a meal by the water ☺️
One of my favorite burrito spots in the Bay but the ordering system is horrible. Their phone lines are always busy and waiting outside the restaurant is a guaranteed 25 minute wait time. I would go here way more often (weekly instead of monthly) if they figured out a better way for customers to get their orders.
Carne asada fries were on point and the hibiscus agua fresca was delicious!
Yesterday was my first time visiting your restaurant.I had a chicken super burrito, the portions are extremely generous. It was really tasty. I’ll be visiting again. Thank you
