This place is the best. A truly beloved local joint with a welcoming atmosphere, kind efficient staff, great food and coffee, and a plethora of customer created napkin art. Several of us ordered mimosas and the owner suggested we would get more bang for our buck with a full bottle of champagne and a carafe of OJ (fresh squeezed), so we had mimosas for days. They also rock a fruit cup and have great biscuits. On their menu: "IF IT’S NOT RIGHT, TELL US AND WE WILL FIX IT." The owner is wonderful and hilarious. If I lived here, I'd be in this place all the damn time.

Don't judge a book by its cover is an appropriate warning... it's not fancy but..oh my...the food is fresh, delicious and bountiful. The catfish & eggs was a delightful breakfast entree. I was told by the owner that they buy fresh seafood from the wharf. I had a pesto egg omelet..can't remember the entree name. All I know is that I want the recipe for those delicious, flavorful pesto cubes that they enfolded into my omelette.. it was a weekly special. The pancakes were huge & fluffy. I tasted food off of everyone's plate ( smiles) Mama's Royal is a favorite Oakland breakfast spot.. laid back.. very casual..limited seating..attentive servers. Check it out!

We had a wonderful time here. The food was absolutely delicious. The server was conscientious, kind and pleasant. We felt welcomed. I could tell by looking around that this cafe has a story and a history. If I lived in Oakland, I would return again and again hoping to learn it.Black Factor: We're okay here.Covid Safety: Vaxx cards checked.Queer/Trans friendlyThe corned beef hash was obviously made from scratch. The corned beef hash was obviously made from scratch. Not the diced up, canned corned beef usually used in diners. I adore the fact that they differentiate between scramble and omelettes. My chorizo scramble was divine. We knew we made the right choice because of the large number of local folks coming in to grab their breakfast or coffee on the go.

The food is okay. We came here for brunch over the weekend when we couldn't get in elsewhere. Service was also okay, one person was really nice.We ordered:Spinarrito (breakfast burrito with a spinach tortilla): overfilled with flavorless black beans. We split it open with a fork and there was like half a can of unseasoned black beans.Blackstone eggs benedict: eggs were cooked well, but oh man they need to work on their hollandaise sauce. You can see from the pic that it's very yellow - it definitely needs less egg yoke + lemon, and more butter. It was so thick and rich that I couldn't finish the meal, I started to gag and felt sick.Combo breakfast with eggs and pancakes: the best and safest option. Our friend said the pancakes were fluffy and scrambled eggs were good. This is the only dish I'd consider coming back here for.Overall, this place was underwhelming. Give it a try if you're in a pinch to find a brunch spot, otherwise there are plenty of better brunch places in the area.

The wait staff was super friendly and inviting. Our food came out quick and tasted delicious.

Amazing selection of omelettes, friendly service and great mimosa for two option. Looking forward to coming back to this place.

Service was very good. Lots of caring, happy waiters. The place looks like a diner, doesn't look super clean but the food's taste and quality was excellent. Coffee was blah.

Came In Got Exactly What I Want And Breakfast Was On Point. Differently Will Be Back.

Awesome breakfast place, just found out by chance. We wanted to dine at Brenda's but glad they were full and we search for another breakfast place and got Mama's Royal cafe.Best hot chocolate in the town, awesome egg Florentine and top quality rest of the breakfast items.I am a professional chef and talking all above with my experience, so guys go and checkout Mama’s Royal Cafe for awesome breakfast,

The fruit with breakfast came in a very small cup, the home fries were over-cooked, and the chicken pattie sausage was still cold and raw inside. The coffee was good, though.
