I went here yesterday morning and got the the chicken and waffles about an hour before I played pickup basketball. I told the friendly guy working with a hat when I was leaving “Ahhh I might be regretting this on the court” but he was like “no you won’t!” I said OK I’ll have extra strength”. I dropped like 50 and had like the best pickup day of my life not even lying. Five stars
Corey is the owner here. He’s the nicest guy
Friendly service, delicious food, amazing coffee. Don't get me started on the Lemon Ice-box Pie. We had the Reggie Jackson, Chicken and Waffles, and the Salmon Croquettes and everything delivered. The whole staff was super friendly and kept our coffee mugs full. Make sure to bring cash and come with an appetite! You will not be disappointed with this Oakland gem! 10/10
Lois the Pie Queen has a great history, charming (and authentic) old school look, a mention in Eater and high ratings. Unfortunately, it's not very good and I don't get the praise. The coffee was hot but the service lukewarm. Speaking of coffee, the only "cream" available was that fake sweet creamer stuff. Gross. Their menu says their grits are better than you can make at home. No, sorry, as long as you can boil water, stir and add butter, they're not. They didn't have chicken thighs that day but okay, breasts will be fine. Nope. The chicken was moist but the corn flake style coating was thin, soggy and much of it slid off the bird into a puddle on the plate. There are so many great restaurants in East Bay that you'll do best to avoid this mediocre institution.
I use to go to eat breakfast here all the time, but I stopped going because the owner has such a nasty attitude. The demographic of the area has shifted over the years and the owner definitely caters and is pleasant to that demographic. If you’re famous then your an exception. Its disheartening that he chooses to be rude and dismissive to the customer base that has kept him in business for so long. The food quality is decent but definitely not what it use to be. Lois the pie queen use to be a restaurant I cherished going to on Sunday morning but not anymore.
Oakland A's greatest old school surviving Chicken and Waffles spot headed by a family that is as steeped in Oakland tradition as they are in its music, and a spot where locals, come to visit the owners and workers there on a regular basis, and enjoy what are now a Vanishing class of treats, real Soul Food, on the West Coast. Don't mess around, just go for the chicken and waffles. Be sure to bring cash, and say hi to Chris if you can. This place like the pied became famous for as a slice of history, and places like this won't be around forever. Enjoy them while they're here. God bless Lois and Chris
Customer service was great! Service fast and smooth. This is my third time coming back. Was trying to be hopeful, But the Pork chop no seasoning on it, if you’re not going to season the meat season the batter at least. salmon croquet are balls not patty and seem like crab meat not salmon, mushy and tasteless. Eggs and grits are fine. This place use to be so good, but the food is off.
Just ordered the sausage patty breakfast with side of hashbrowns. The food was packaged with care and arrived quickly. Probably one of the best breakfast ive ever had. Everything was cook to perfecrion and I scarfed it all down leaving me nice and full! I definitely be ordering frim there again!
Delicious food. The chicken and waffles was fantastic. Generous portions. I will definitely be a repeat customer
A nice spot with the best chicken and waffles in Oakland. But bring cash... they don't accept debit card. You can venmo though. #foodie
