This place is great! I’m not from the east coast so I can’t speak to if the bagel compares to those, but I love this place’s lox bagel. It’s quick, easy, reasonably priced, and tasty. I’m picky about lox so when I find a place that I think does it well I’m happy :) I do wish the bagel’s were slightly chewier and would come out warm but they are still delicious.
Crowded enough to make u feel good about your decision but still speedy on a pleasant Saturday morning.Bagels are dense in a good way on their own, although as a sandwich the innards spilled out because of the bagel density. Decent people watch could’ve used more freaks
The after school special is unique and delicious. Mustard and chopped liver are great on the everything bagel
Sssshh. Let us keep quiet about this place. A gem not so hidden by Telegraph and McArthur, at the very edge or center of Oakland’s gentrification. Beautiful Victorians, new 10+ floor condos, empty locked parking lots, chained fences, hardware store, … It ain’t no SF Marina here. yet. GenX, GenY, techies, kiddies, French poodles, inked bodies, electric bikes, Patagonia jackets, hoodies, homeless strollers, are abound.Bagels! Kettle boiled. Solid. Chewy and soft. Coffee is bomb! And Wise Sons babka!!! Bagel and cream cheese orders come in perfectly toasted halves. without having to explain and ask.Be a pal. Offer to get the coffee and bagel for the less fortunate in the community, make new friends. Enjoy and be thankful.
Bagels are affordable and served pretty quickly. I asked for a toasted bagel and got a warm bagel that was clearly not toasted. Seemed like it would have been a great bagel, though. May go back to try it again.
This is specific to their bagels, not the rest of their food. I live nearby and go to Beauty’s once every couple months, always in an aspirational attempt to give it another try. Unfortunately, it rarely lives up to the hype for me. Here’s why: 1) bagels are often not fresh! Even on a Saturday early morning! You have one job - and that is to make fresh bagels. This is unforgivable, especially after so many second chances (I thought maybe I just got a bad batch or an off day). 2) Bagels too small! And often too flat / not plump enough - getting dangerously close to bialy territory :). They do seem to have gotten slightly bigger recently but the hole is also too big now. Finally, 3) I can’t put my finger on it, but the crust and dough density are just a little off. The outside isn’t quite thick/dense enough, the inside isn’t quite dense yet soft enough. So all this leaves me to leave a harsh review. It’s been a few years of trying with them and while I’ll probably keep going once in a while, I’m not going to pretend these are the best bagels in the area or comparable to NY bagels (which is often a comparison I hear people make when saying a bagel is good).
Awesome work! Bagels are great & the super friendly team makes it a win all aroundPS) the Reuben is crazy good with the toasty grilled onions, melty cheese and super tender pastrami
Perfect crunch to the bagel, with the right kind of chew. Though a little light on the salt for my taste, the freshly topped bagels make a great start to the day — minus the breakfast coma.Filter coffee could be hotter.
A perfect Friday morning with a yummy classic salmon bagel and delicious deviled eggs. What made it even more special is the smiley guy at the cashier who certainly made my day start in a bright mood and happy vibes.
Yummy bagels with good generous crust and chew. I'm not sure would call these Montreal style, having grown up there, these aren't as sweet. But it's my go to shop in Oakland. Staff are very nice, haven't tried the sandwiches.Come earlier or you might risk your favorite selling out
