This is the real deal. Have been eating here since 1987 when my wife and I were dating and most recently last week with my 25 year old son visiting from ATL - he insisted on going due to wonderful childhood memories - which prompted me to finally write a review after 35 years as loyal patron. Everyone referred here agrees: best burgers period. All 1/2 lb super high quality beef (except the 1 lb monster burger, chicken and salmon burgers). My favorite is the Voodoo burger which has bacon, provolone, blue cheese and at least 1/4 lb of sautéed mushrooms pouring out of the brioche bun. Sweet potato fries always excellent and pure without distracting spices (ask for chipotle mayo on the side). Do not miss the mocha shake with Turkish coffee grounds! Nothing like it anywhere and I’ve ingested shakes all over the world. Barney’s has several Bay Area locations and uniquely each has a garden in the back that feels like an oasis in metro setting. Clean restaurant, diverse staff and customers, family-friendly, decent prices for the quality, clean bathrooms. Can’t add pictures as we again dug into burgers as soon as they hit the table. The menu has at least 20 other gourmet burgers and several shake combinations for everyone’s taste. If you’ve tried the rest - head here for the best.
Never ever did I think I'd give less than 5+ stars for this place. After so many special memories at this place since 2007, it's my fav burger spot anywhere! Tonight the patio was overrun with pigeons, and their droppings. Staff did nothing. Pigeons on the table tops and chairs, walking around the patio near us while we ate, and obviously nothing new given the heavily soiled market umbrellas over head. It was revolting. Also something glitched with their computers so all of a sudden everyone got the announcement that we'd have to go rustle up cash for our bill. Two kids, two adults, 20% tip was $90...and somehow I managed to stay strong and not order curly fries this time.
Barney’s on Piedmont has a bit more charm than it’s counterpart on College Ave. Although Shattuck is likely our favorite in the East Bay, the Piedmont location has attentive staff and a nice backyard patio for al fresco eating when the weather’s nice. The burgers are average when it comes to taste and flavor - though I’m not one to speak on the beef patties since switching to the Beyond offering a few years back. They don’t know how to cook the Beyond very well, but the curly fries and onion rings are tasty, the shakes are delicious, and their salads are consistent. I wouldn’t seek out a meal here, but it’s a good safe option.
Great place for burgers in Oakland.Nice boutique place to enjoy.They also serve beyond burgers.Wine bottles are super cheap and good collection.Great service.Staff is friendly, polite and provides great suggestions.
Decent food, bad customer service. My family and I decided to dine in for the evening. However, the experience wasn't very pleasant. This is the second time we've visited this restaurant and the service was not up to par at all. My order was wrong and they failed to resolve the issue in a timely manner. This location lacks attentiveness and professionalism.
Why are they still asking for proof of vax?! Covid restrictions have basically been lifted everywhere and these people still refuse to get back to normal. We all know the vaxxed can still spread Covid…so why the requirement?? Time to put your hypochondria aside and get back to normal.
I still love a good Barney's burger but our last visit was a little haphazard. I know covid-19 has made it hard to do things like we used to, so maybe it was just an off day.
Great burger place with giant portions of fries!
I had not been to Barney's in years.I paid over $13 for a "classic" turkey burger which was delicious, but was barely larger than a slider. That would have been ok, if it had come w/ skinny fries. I could have done the same thing at home and made my own fries!! Not worth the price. The best part was meeting my GF of many years, for lunch.
Barney's has always been a great place for a good tasty meal. We had the Barney burgers and BLT sandwich and milk shake, curly fries.Good services with friendly staff.
