I’m sorry but this place is overrated. The drinks were watered down. Our waiter was rather argumentative instead of listening to our concerns about the food being cold and tasteless. We come from Chicago, so when it comes to what taste great, we know what to expect. It’s just lacking and we are extremely disappointed with the food, drinks and service.

My husband and I went for this first time per recommendation from a friend. It was wonderful. It is relaxed, not too crowded, and the service was excellent! They were attentive and explained the menu well. We had the chicken wings, Dungeness crab boil with the Stephen curry sauce (amazing!) and the Vegetarian Stew. All wonderful food and huge portions. You definitely get what you pay for and more! We will be back!

Our niece recommended that we come here. So disappointing. Where do I start… we drove from Berkeley thinking that we were gonna have a great experience, but to our disappointment the food was disgusting. We ordered two supposedly succulent and falling off the bone chicken wings plates which were clearly just party wings out of a frozen bag and tossed in some sauce after fried. We also ordered the oxtail dinner which was under seasoned and whatever that coleslaw stuff is on top you guys should stop it. I had the vegan plate which was at the very least mediocre and my plantain was sour and clearly past it’s days. We ordered the island bread which looked very good online, but when we got home and open the box it was just Hawaiian dinner rolls which were a bit burnt and without any garnish as presented on the online menu. What’s funny is when we got home a neighbor was barbecuing and her food was better than this! OK…so there you have it. If you eat at his place just be ready to be disappointed. Terrible and nauseating. Never eating here again. And her stomach hurts.

the food here is 5 stars . . . absolutely delicious and crave worthy! but the frustration with the service is about to make me give up on this place. there is no service. sure, someone might take your order but that's it. no one checks in on your table. you have to flag someone down for everything. i would order more food and many more drinks if i could get someone to help me. there is a QR ordering system but there is something so offputting and soulless about ordering that way. oh but the food is so good! i try to just focus on that. the oysters, the various boils (we like the romesco) and the whole fried snapper . .. i will respectfully request better napkins because if you're going to make such enticing, delicious food that you can't help but get your hands all up in. . the napkins need to be so much better!

Absolutely the worst service I’ve had in my time being in California. Food was over cooked, flavorless and over priced. Service was awful, in order to get a waiters attention you would need to go find them. Outside dining got little to no attention.

the food here is astonishingly good! Their guava margaritais are refreshing, delicious and strong! I just ate my meal there last night and am already dying to go back. I hate to say this, because i know the challenges of running a restaurant during covid, but the service is stilted and awkward. The QR code ordering system makes it difficult to understand the scope of the menu and because it's barely more than counter service, I didn't feel like i got the chance to try everything i wanted to try. I get the fast/casual trend but this food deserves so much more. All that being said, I will go back because the food is just that delectable. So much flavor and soul! Oakland is so lucky to have this establishment.

This place is wonderful. I had the vegetarian stew and I've had it before. But they have a new recipe and it's seasoned so well, it's pretty, lol, and it's a huge portion. I do wish that they had more vegetarian dishes, but they always have new things on the menu when I come, which is a plus and I love that they do that.Nathaniel was my server tonight, very attentive & knowledgeable of the menu. He also suggested great drinks from the bar that I really enjoyed. He has great customer service and went above and beyond to make sure I was a satisfied customer. Great sense of humor as well. The bartender; Joshua makes a great Margarita Colada. That sweet potato Cheesecake tasted so good I could have ordered a whole one lol. Outside dining includes heated lamps too.I highly recommend this place

4.5Food still on hit! I used to frequent a La Mar for lunch when it was open for lunch, and had dined there on many occasions prior to covid, so it had been a while. I ate lunch there frequently so I think it became just "so-so" to me . . . But when I went to dinner there last night . . . Omg the food: mag-ni-fique! I was really happy with the food.I ordered ox tail (my fave in general), mussels and did the sausage add on, oysters and bread. The only reason why it wasn't a 5 is why all eateries and restuarant service is not to par right now...service in general has gone down in this 'demic world. We were greeted nicely at the door by the chef and we were well guided in, no wait, and everyone was truly lovely when we were served, but interaction was so minimal to the point where we couldnt really follow up on our order or water. But not a biggie, just not a 5 neither. The meal was brilliant though. Thank you A La Mar.

We found this spoke on Facebook. The food was delicious the service was great. It’s in a great location with easy parking. Thank you Miguel for amazing food I look forward to coming back with more friends
