Fried chicken was bland and food portion became smaller (coleslaw) and the wings were much smaller from the last time I came here. I will not be dining here anymore.
The staff has alway been great. Unfortunately, a couple of months ago, they changed the recipe for the white meat chicken strips. They have gone from being excellent to being bad. Too little chicken, too much breading. It's a shame.
Ordered a Bibimbap for pick up. And realized there’s no sauce when I got home. If there’s no sauce, it’s just unacceptable. Called them and the front blamed on the chief. If I want the sauce I had to drive 25 minutes back to get it. Had to find a nearby Korean restaurant to get the sauce. Not eating there anymore.
Not a good first impression. Toppoki and Japchae were bland. Chicken Katsu was dry. Note to kitchen staff: Cut the meat against the grain.
Overall an underwhelming experience. Have been to multiple branches in Virginia and every one of them had better ambience and taste. Probably a result of the Covid shut down. Hopefully it gets better. Popcorn chicken was good. Fried Rice and Spicy Wings were very mediocre. Wings were hit or miss because of the inconsistency in the amount of sauce.
Service was great, got helped by kyle. He was really nice and spit in my food for me. Love the service, will come back!
When we first went to this BonChon we were blown away by the size of the chicken and the quality of the sauces. Since the pandemic though it seems they've had to downscale quite a bit the already small dining room was cut to about half in size as was the size of the chicken compared to what it was when we first started going. The sauce was applied haphazardly and it took a while to get simple condiments. I'm sure we'll be going back though as the pandemic has surely had some role in this and we hope they will return to the same level of quality they were before.
I love bonchon, I've been to location in San Mateo , San Leandro and Berkeley. This location is close to my new job so I decided to get some lunch. The service here is pretty bad, they move slow, and don't even greet you. Honestly this I can get over, but the food I cannot. The wings where bland, the sauce looks like it was just dripped over the chicken. I talked to the owner of the San Leandro store and he told me that each location gets their chicken from where they want, and he only wants to get good chicken. This newark location I have no idea where they get their chicken from but this is not good. I wouldn't go back.
Chicken wings n fries were Awesome
