Ludwigs is a lively German spot on Castro St that serves up terrific food. We went on a Friday evening and there was no wait time despite being quite crowded. They have plenty of outdoor seating which was fantastic in the beautiful weather. We got a couple pretzels to start and they were phenomenal. Not overly salty or greasy, just right with a nice sweet dip on the side. We got a vegan lentil loaf which was decent to share, although if hungry you could get your own. The apple strudel with vanilla cream was an amazing treat at the end. I'll definitely be trying those mouthwatering Berliners next time I go.Throughout our experience, our server was timely and friendly, and everything was well done. Check this spot out for a good time!
Awesome spot with great beer and a great beer list. Only problem is the ordering system is kind of misleading from the tables. Currently looks like you have to order online but it doesn’t actually seem to work that way. Great spot tho. Will be back.
I wanted to try out this place after remembering how good a time I had in Munich Oktoberfest a few years back. I wanted to have some real German brews and some Bratwurst. Overall beers were good. Food was adequate; lunch bratwurst was small but flavorful and I did like the sauerkraut and mash. Pretzels were average, did not like the sweet mustard. Some of our party did not really feel the schnitzel they had (Veal) was as good as they had hoped. Also service was terribly slow, I saw there were only two waitress staff so we did feel bad for them having to cover so many tables.I will like to come back for more beer in particular and to try some of their other sausage plates. Not sure about the pretzel or schnitzel.
Very nice patio setup with good heat lamps. The food came out really quickly which was nice. I enjoyed my food but felt the cucumber salad was overdressed tonight. Pricey, but it seems worthwhile.
Just went here last night for dinner. Loved the outside seating. Got the Jaeger schnitzel with a substitute of fries instead of spätzle... So good. Highly recommend this place!
My family and I (4 people) got the Butcher's Platter and it was enough for us to eat for 2 nights. Please get some of the holiday cider, it was so tart and pleasantly sweet. The beer and food were lovely and they had benches and heaters outside to enjoy the fall vibes outside.
We visited for early lunch on a Friday for our first German food date. The staff was attentive, insightful: we got a great beer recommendation to go with our feast for two + pretzel.Definitely for the meat lovers among us.We loved the chicken sausage and the links. The pretzel is soft and delicious. The place is sparklingly clean. We'll be back.
Enjoyed most all the food, beer and sides. Very authentic and well prepared! Quite like my experience in Germany EXCEPT the sweinhaxen. For $40 it looked great but need to be cooked another hour or so. I took it home and put it in the Dutch oven for 2 hours to make it edible easy to get meat off the bone. I hope they can correct this travesty! If it isn’t done, don’t serve it!
Oversell aesthetic and food is good. Once the food was ordered, it came out fast. I appreciate the bartender personally delivering drinks and beer. I love the beer garden vibes, especially at night with the string lights. It’s a lovely place to enjoy Castro Street. Like many places, staff is busy, but we were able to flag down our waiter when needed. Sausage, burger, spätzle, fries—all good. Really enjoyed the Apple Steusel.
We love this place. Good German food good beer. Only giving a 4 on a standard very hot day some employees couldn’t seem to keep their mask above their nose. Understandable it is hot. But still bringing food. You never know keep mask on
